Chapter Two
Vic POV
"So, um…are you going to show me around?" Kellin asked shyly a few minutes before the bell signaling the end of homeroom sounded. I nodded eagerly.
"Yeah! Do you know what class you have next?" I asked. He nodded. "Yeah. I have gym." "Me too!"
I realized I sounded overly excited and blushed. "Sorry. I’m probably scaring you a little," I apologized. He chuckled, shaking his head.
"Nah, you’re fine," he said, gathering up his stuff. "But we’d better get going."
I glanced up to see the class already filing out. I jumped up and grabbed my stuff quickly. How had I not heard that annoying bell?
"Alright. Let’s go. You could meet some of my friends," I smiled as I led him out. Turns out, we only had about four lockers between us.
"Ready?" I asked, slinging my bag over my shoulder and standing next to him. he didn’t seem as eager now. "I guess," he said uneasily, following me to the gym reluctantly.
We got to the gym just at the last minute, and ran to the locker room so we wouldn’t get yelled out by the coach. I changed quickly while Kellin just stood there for a second.
"Um, do you think he’ll let me sit out today?" he asked. I frowned a little. "Why? Don’t feel good or something?"
"No, no, I feel fine," he assured me. "It’s just…"
"Just what?" I asked. "Come on, we’re the only ones in here. The rest of the guys are waiting out there. You can tell me."
He hesitated, biting his lip. "I have asthma," he finally said. "I’m scared of having an asthma attack, and I didn’t bring my inhaler."
I smiled. "That’s all? Come on, you’ll be fine. If you start to have problems or something, just tell him and he’ll let you sit down. Just let him know what you told me, okay?"
Kellin nodded, still sort of reluctant as he followed me out into the gym. "Finally, faggot," one of the guys said under their breath. I rolled my eyes, used to being called that ever since I came out.
Kellin glanced at me, but said nothing. I swallowed, wondering if he thought differently of me know that he knew I was gay. I mean, he was so obviously straight, so I’d never have a chance with him.
"Alright, I want you to do ten laps around the gym," the coach barked. We all groaned-even Kellin. "Now it’s twelve. Go!"
I got lazy around the fourth lap.
Kellin, however-damn, that boy could run. He didn’t slow down from his sprint until about the eight lap, and I got kind of worried. Was his asthma kicking in or something?
But then he took of again and finished the twelve laps.
I pretended to have done the twelve laps, stopping when I did nine. Hell, I could’ve done the last three, but I was fucking tired.
"How did you get through those so quickly?" I panted as I went to stand next to Kellin. He glanced over at me and shrugged.
"I don’t know," he mumbled. Great. I guess we’re back to the quietness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I showed him around the school for the rest of the day. He nodded and shrugged or shook his head when I asked him a question. Not wanting to push him, I finally fell quiet, giving up on conversation with this boy.
He ran out of the school at the end of the day before I had a chance to ask him if he wanted a ride home. I mean, he didn’t have a car. He told me that when he was still speaking to me.
I wondered if I did something to make him not want to talk to me like he had earlier today.
Kellin POV
I ran home in a hurry, not wanting to run into Vic. He was a nice kid and all-and pretty cute, I’ll admit-but I didn’t want him to get to know me.
Because if he knew me, he would know my life.
And then he would leave.
I burst into the house, hoping that it was still empty. Against my hope, it wasn’t. "Hello, faggot."
I flinched, backing into the wall as my uncle,the only one to take me in when my parents died,walked out of his room. he reeked of alcohol.
"How was your day at school? See any cute boys, queer?" he snarled, punching me in the stomach.I groaned and doubled over as the punches and kiccks kept coming.
Yes, it was best if I weren’t friends with Vic.
