Kellin POV
“Motherfuck!” I heard Vic shout, and then a slam. I let out a giggle, knowing that he was working on his homework. I knocked on the bedroom door, which was answered by a groan. “What.”
I chuckled. “Babe? Can I come in? You sound like you’re having trouble.” It was silent, but then I heard footsteps nearing the door. He opened it up with a puppy dog expression.
“Only if you help me,” he pouted. I smiled, wrapping my arms around his waist. He smiled back and reached up to wrap his arms around my neck. “Of course I will, you mentally challenged senior,” I whispered, giggling a bit as I said it. He immediately pulled away, fake-scowling at me.
”Hey, we can’t all be sixteen year old senior geniuses like you, all right?” I laughed again. “Whatever, genius my ass. What do you need help with?” I asked as I followed him to our shared desk. he sighed and sat down, running his hands through his hair.
“Fucking algebra. I don’t understand a damn thing!” he yelled, throwing his hands up in frustration. I set a hand on his shoulder and picked up his pencil. “Here, let me show you how to do it; it’s not so hard,” I said softly.
“But when are we going to fucking use this in life?” he asked, giving me a “don’t-even-say-we-will-because-you-know-damn-well-we-won’t” kind of look. I laughed again.
“Honestly, we’re probably not going to. But you have to pass, so you have to learn this. So let me help you.”
He cooperated, if not a little difficultly. He kept whining about how he didn’t understand, and how pointless it was, and all of that. I finally threw down the pencil in frustration.
“How the fuck did you make it to be a senior!” I yelled. He started laughing, throwing his notebook down. “I have no fucking idea!”I stood up. “Fuck this, I’m getting something to eat,” I muttered, a slight smile on my face.
“You ate like, thirty minutes ago, Kell,” Vic pointed out, looking at me innocently. Even though I knew for damn sure he didn’t mean anything by it, it offended me.
“So?” I answered. “I eat when I’m hungry.” He didn’t get the hint to just drop it and continued. “How are you hungry already? You just had like a full bowl of cereal.”
“Well, I don’t give a damn!” I shouted suddenly, bursting out. I was already insecure about my weight, and he wasn’t helping very much with his unintentional comments. I stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind me, knowing that I was overreacting.
But that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt.
~~~Vic POV~~~
I stared dumbfounded at the spot that Kellin had just been standing. Why had he gotten so mad and defensive towards me? Did I say something wrong?
I got up and walked out to the kitchen, expecting to see him there. But he wasn’t. I frowned, thinking that he might have walked outside to get some fresh air. I was right this time.
He was sitting in the back yard, his back towards the screen door. He was sitting with crossed legs, his face in his hands. I could hear him mumbling to himself and seeing his hands clench over and over again, and wondered why he was so upset.
“Hey,” I said softly, walking forward hesitantly and placing a hand on his shoulder. “Are you alright, sweetheart?”
He sighed, shrugging his shoulders. “I don’t know, Vic,” he said, but it was muffled by his palms. I sat next to him, pulling him to me. He leaned against my shoulder as I stroked his hair lovingly. “Come on, you can tell me,” I cooed.
