Kellin POV
I looked up at Vic with wide eyes, who was staring back at me with the same expression. “Shit!” we both hissed at the same time, stumbling onto our feet and trying to look normal as we waited for his mother.
She came storming into the room, looking furious. “Victor Vincent Fuentes, would you like to tell me what happened at school today?” she questioned, crossing her arms and looking at him with narrowed eyes. I flinched back behind him slightly. She wasn’t even mad at me and I was scared.
Vic looked at the ground, playing with his fingers. “Uhm, I-I got in a fight,” he mumbled.
"Why? Vic, why would you do that? Those boys’ parents want to go to court! Why would you hurt them so bad that they are in the hospital right now?"
I didn’t miss the little smirk on Vic’s lips, and I know his mom didn’t, either. But she didn’t say anything.
"I’m sorry, Mama," he finally said, looking up at her. They looked in each other’s eyes and seemed to be having a silent conversation before she sighed, seeming less angry.
"Well, will you at least tell me why you did it? You’ve never acted out like this before," she answered, looking at me quickly and then back to him. Did she know he did it for me?
"They were trying to fight Kellin and I, Mom. They threw the first punch, and they ganged Kellin. They were calling us faggots, too," Vic frowned. "At least the kids in the cafeteria stuck up for us. I would have been expelled if they hadn’t."
"Vic," she sighed, and I knew that Vic was getting upset. He hated disappointing anyone, and his mom was disappointed in him at the moment. He slouched his shoulders, not looking anyone in the eyes.
"I’m sorry," he murmured. "I’ll pay for their hospital bills, if they want me to…"
"How are you going to do that?" his mother asked. He shrugged.
"I don’t know. I’ll work for the summer or something."
It hurt my heart to see how hurt he was, so I reached over and took his hand in mine, squeezing it gently. He immediately laced our fingers together.
"Well, I’m not the happiest right now," she stated. "But I can’t do anything about it. I think you did the right thing if they did all of that. You’re lucky your father isn’t here, he would be very disappointed."
"Or proud, like I am," Mike smirked, appearing at the doorway. "Never knew you had it in you, big brother."
"Mike, stay out of this," their mother scolded, but I could see a smile playing at her lips. "But,” she continued, looking back over at Vic. “I do have to punish you somehow. So, Kellin’s going to be staying in my room or Mike’s for the next week.”
"But Mom,” Vic whimpered.
"No buts," she interrupted. "C’mon Kellin. You’re going to stay in my room for tonight."
"Alright, Mrs. Fuentes," I whispered. She nodded and turned to walk out of the room, dragging Mike with her.
I turned to Vic and he looked sad. I couldn’t help but lean forward and press my lips to his gently, placing my hands on his shoulders. He immediately wrapped his arms around my waist, holding me close.
"Love you," he mumbled as he pulled away, our foreheads pressed together. I smiled, squeezing his shoulder.
"Love you too, Vic."
"C’mon, Kellin!" his mother called. I sighed and pulled away, pecking his lips one last time before walking out of his room.

I tossed and turned on the air mattress for the next few hours. Don’t get me wrong-the mattress was comfortable. But I had grown used to Vic’s arms around me as we slept. And I’m not even going to lie-before I met him, I barely slept as it was.
I heard a slight sigh, and Vic’s mom turned towards me. “Why aren’t you asleep, Kellin?” she asked softly, sounding exhausted. I felt guilty, looking down.
"I’m sorry," I mumbled, not answering her question. She laughed slightly.
"I think I know why you’re not asleep yet, but can you please tell me?" she questioned gently.
"I can’t sleep without Vic," I whispered, my face burning at my confession. But it was true..
"I figured," she sighed. "It’s almost sickening how in love you two are." I giggled a little bit.
"Sorry?"
"Don’t be, dear. I’m glad Vic has you. You’re really good for him. I’ve never seen him like this before.."
"Like what?" I questioned, curious about my boyfriend’s behavior.
"Desperately in love," she smiled. "He’s been texting me for the past two hours begging me to let you stay with him. He even offered free car washes for life."
I giggled, because it sounded exactly like something Vic would do. “Yeah, I love him too,” I said softly. She didn’t answer, but then she smiled at me.
"Go," she stated.
"What?" I asked, surprised. I thought Vic was getting punished? Well, both of us, but..
"I can’t keep you two away from each other. It physically hurts me to keep you two apart, so I can’t imagine what you guys feel. Go, stay with him. I take back the punishment.”
"Thank you, Mrs. Fuentes!" I said excitedly, jumping out of bed and grabbing my blankets quickly.
"Don’t mention it," she yawned, closing her eyes. I left quickly, sneaking into Vic’s room.
I half expected him to be asleep, but no. He was wide awake, staring at the ceiling. He looked over at me as soon as I opened the door, a huge smile appearing on his face.
"Hi," he said softly as I threw my blanket on top of him. I smiled back as I climbed into bed beside him.
"Hi," I whispered, sighing happily as he wrapped his arms around my waist. "I missed you."
"Mm, I missed you too," he mumbled, pressing his lips to my neck as he nuzzled his head on my shoulder. "I couldn’t sleep without you here."
"Ditto," I muttered as I got as close to him as possible. Yeah, you could say I’m needy or clingy, but I didn’t care, and neither did Vic. In fact, he had told me multiple times that he loved my neediness/clinginess.
With our arms wrapped around each other and our legs intertwined, we finally fell asleep.
