Chapter Six
Vic POV
"Are you ready for this?" I asked softly, looking at Kellin. He looked afraid, and his hands were shaking. "Y-yeah," he whispered, trying to smile. I gave him a disbelieving look. "No, you’re not."
He just got out of the hospital yesterday, and we were athis househis uncle’s house to get his stuff. I was serious when I said that I didn’t want him staying there anymore.
"I know," he whimpered. I took him into my arms and he leaned against me, shivering horribly. "W-what if he sees me and beats me? What if he almosts kills me?" he cried, holding onto my shirt tightly. "I don’t want to go in, Vic!"
"Do you want me to go in and get your stuff while you wait out here?" I asked quietly in his ear. He hesitated, then shook his head. "N-no. What if he hurts you?" he whispered, sounding horrified at the thought.
"He won’t hurt me, sweetheart," I assured him, pulling back. "I’ll be quiet. Just wait here and I’ll get your stuff, okay?" Kellin hesitated, then nodded. "Alright," he whispered. "Just…be careful, okay?"
"I will," I told him, pressing my lips to his gently before pulling back. His face had turned red and I smiled, chuckling at the thought that I could do that. "I’ll be right back."
I opened the door quietly and looked around the house, then stepped inside. It seemed empty, so I quickly ran to Kellin’s room. He didn’t have a lot of stuff, so it all really just fit into one bag. I quickly grabbed the bag and started making my way out, not onticing his uncle standing in front of me.
"What the hell are you doing here?" he roared. My eyes widened and I looked around for an escape. "Answer me, faggot. Who are you and why are you in my house? Where’s that queer, Kellin?" he asked, sneering Kellin’s name. That made me angry.
"He’s far, far away from you, fucker!" I snapped at him, setting the bag down. "I know you beat him, you little bitch. He’s not going to be your punching bag anymore, because he’s going to live with me!"
"Really now?" he snarled. "Well, I guess I’ll have to settle on beating the shit out of you, huh?" Before I could react, he punched me in the stomach, making me double over and gasp. He didn’t stop, just continued hitting me until I was against the wall on the floor.
"S-stop!" I yelled, reaching out and grabbing his foot as he was about to kick me. He fell onto his back, a curse slipping out of his mouth. I couldn’t believe that Kellin, my sweet, innocent, soft-heartedKellin,had to deal with this everyday.
"You-mother-fucking-prick! Rot-in-hell!" I shouted as I climbed on top of him and punched him in the face with every word. I was pissed.
"Vic!" Kellin shouted, trying to pull me off of him. I stopped hitting him when I was sure he was knocked out cold. I tried to stand up but couldn’t, too sore to really do anything. "Come on," Kellin whispered, grabbing his bag and wrapping an arm around my waist. He wasn’t very strong himself at the moment, what with the beatings and attempted suicide, but he was still putting me before himself.
Is it okay for me to be falling in love with him?
I groaned as I stood up, not wanting him to have to support me. "I’m okay, Kells," I whispered, smiling weakly. He frowned at me. "You are not. I just watched you get the shit beat out of you."
I frowned as he led me to the passenger side of my car. He threw his bag in the back, then got in the driver’s side. "Hey, this is my car," I teased. He smiled a little. "Yeah, and you’re crippled at the moment. I think I can handle driving to your house, Vic."
We drove in silence, but then something occured to me. "How long were you standing there?" I asked. He glanced over at me. "I saw him hit you," he replied quietly after a moment. "I saw him beat you. Then I saw you fight back."
He pulled over, even though we were still miles away from my house. He started crying softly as he stared straight ahead, not looking at me. "I’m sorry, Vic," he whispered. "I’m sorry he hit you. I’m sorry that you had to go through what I did. I’m sorry that I made you go in there by yourself because I was too much of a coward. I’m so-"
"Stop," I said softly, reaching over and turning his face towards me. i brushed the tears away. "This isn’t your fault. You ahve nothing to apologize for."
"Yes I do!" he exclaimed, blinking as more tears fell. "It’s my fault that he beat you! If I had just gone in, he would have left you alone! He wouldn’t have-"
"But what if you had gone in, Kellin?" I asked. "Do you think I would have been okay with hiim beating you again while I was right there, and I didn’t do anything about it? I’d rather it be me than you, okay? I care about you too much to want you to ever get hurt, andI’msorry. I’m sorry you had to go through that everyday, because you sure as hell don’t deserve it."
He shook his head. "But I do! You’re the one who doesn’t deserve it!" "Stop it," I said firmly. "You don’t deserve that, end of story. I’ll doanythingto protect you. If that means I have to get beat up by 100 people like your uncle to keep you safe, I’ll do it. Now shut up and say thank you."
He laughed a little bit, wiping his tears. "Thank you, Vic," he said, that rare, heartwarming smile of his spreading across his face. I smiled warmly at him.
"Anytime, Kells," I murmured, leaning in and kissing him. He giggled against my lips, making me grin as I deepened the kiss. It was rare that he laughed-hell it was rare when he evensmiled-and I felt amazing knowing that I caused these adorable laughs coming from between his perfect lips.
"Let’s go home now, yeah?" I breathed, pulling away. He nodded, looking dazed. "Of course, when you recover from my kiss," I added. He laughed loudly, starting the car again.
"Hey, shut the hell up, will ya?"

"Mom, we’re home!" I yelled as Kellin and I walked in the door. Kellin looked over at me nervously. "Are you sure it’s okay with them that I stay here?" he whispered, holding onto my shirt as he stood behind me a little.
"Of course it is, Kells," I whispered back. "They don’t know anything about what happened to you, though. I didn’t want to tell them unless it was okay with you."
"Please don’t," he mumbled. "I just want to start new." "Of course, sweetheart," I murmured, kissing his cheek. His face went red and I chuckled.
"Is Kellin with you?" Mom yelled. "Of course his boyfriend is with him, Mom!" Mike shouted back from his room, making Kellin blush even harder. "You told them?!?" he whisper-screamed. I shrugged.
"Mike’s the one who noticed that I liked you, and there’s no keeping anything from my mom," I laughed softly, making him smile a bit.
"Oh, you’re late! Come eat," my mom smiled, walking into the room. "Hi, Kellin. I’m Vic’s mom, obviously," she laughed. Kellin quirked a small smile.
"Hi, Mrs. Fuentes." Just then, my dad walked in the door. "Hey boys!" he yelled as we went to give him a hug. Kellin hung back, looking slightly afraid. I realized that he probably didn’t like older men because of his uncle.
"Hi Dad. Uhm, this is Kellin, my-" I started, but he interrupted me. "Your boyfriend, yes I know. Mike told me." I glared at Mike and he smirked, shrugging. "Hey, somebody had to do it."
"Hi, Mr. Fuentes," Kellin whispered. My dad smiled at him. "Hello, Kellin. Aren’t you going to come eat my wife’s delicious spaghetti?"
Kellin smiled, a real, genuine smile like he had earlier, and I realized that this was a new beginning.
And it was going to be great.
