Rays of sunlight caught my face as I looked up at the large mansion that belongs to Charles. I was as awestruck as the kids were. Erik just continued walking to the large front doors where Charles and Moria were going. Walking in the back of the group, I watched as Xavier showed us the science room, dorms, the sitting lounge, and the training arena where the teens would spend most of their time.
"Cassandra, do you mind if we talk for a minute?" Charles asked as he let the young mutants wander around the building. I shuffled next to him as we entered his private study. Standing with my hands in my front pockets, I wondered what the professor wanted to talk about.
"Charles, I don't think I have thanked you yet, but I want to now. You decided to help me and Erik knowing that we've had the worst past and never trusted anyone but each other. The kids are, I know, in safe hands with your guidance." I said as Charles took a seat in a chair behind his desk.
"That is what I wanted to talk about with you," Charles started as he motioned for me to sit across from him. "Alex seems to trust you more than myself and I think it would be, if you're fine with it, better for him to train with you." I smiled lightly and nodded my head in agreement.
"I would like that, but what about Erik? He needs help to manage his powers too." I asked as removed my hands from my pockets and picking up a framed picture of Raven and Charles. She looked pretty and young and Charles seemed to enjoy her presence next to him.
"I will be and I wish for you to join in at some point or I can ask for Moria to help with your abilities." I grimaced at the mention of her name and shook my head. Placing the picture down, I smiled at Charles for helping us and thanked him again before leaving the room to find Alex to start training.

"Concentration is key to fully unlocking your powers. Focus on something, person or an object, and keep that item or being in mind when you use your abilities." I stated buttoning my gloves around the waistband of my pants. Alex rubbed his hands together in anticipation and smiled as he stood up straight.
"How's that suppose to help me?" He questioned my logic. Wind blew my hair over my shoulder and I caught a glimpse of Erik standing off to the side, watching my every move. Walking over to Alex, I tapped the side of his head with my finger and then pointed at his chest.
"You must train this muscle first before ever getting these ready. If your mind is not set for what you want your powers to do then you will not grasp fully how your power works and how to use it well," I lectured Alex as he relaxed his shoulders and closed his eyes. "What is that you are here for? To protect the humans and your fellow mutants? To realize that you are not a monster?"
"Does it have to be an object?" He asked opening an eye and looking back at me as I stepped away from him. Turning around, I noticed Charles leaning against the terrace rail alongside Erik as they watched me work with Alex for the first time.
"Just something that calms you and makes you focused," he took a breath in and planted both his feet on the ground steadily. Bowing my head, I crossed my hands behind my back and relaxed the tension in my body as I focused my brain on my mother. The only one who loved me for who I truly was.
Lifting my head, I released my hands and brought them to my sides as I turned to face Alex again. He was breathing easy and his eyes were closed in concentration. I placed my hand to the side of my head and readied myself to bring my mind to rest and my body to fight.
"Open your eyes," I said with calmness in my voice. "Take a deep breath. Fight me." Alex's eyes were wide open when he looked at me. I could tell he was uncomfortable with hurting me or anybody or anything else. Pulling out a knife from my waistband, I flipped it around in my hand.
"Really?" He questioned as I got in a fight stance and nodded my head in agreement. "I-I don't want to hurt you, Cassandra." I rolled my eyes and stood back up. Looking over my shoulder, I saw Erik still standing there and watching me. I motioned for him to come over to us so I could talk to him.
"Hit me," I bluntly stated as Erik reached where I was standing. He shook his head and smiled lightly at me. "That's right, you can't. Hit me, Erik. Act like I just insulted you to the highest degree." He looked at the knife in my hand and back up at my eyes that were glimmering with curiosity.
"Okay." He grabbing my wrist and hitting the weapon out of my hand, making it clatter onto the dirt path. Erik released me from his grip and swung his arm at my side, but I jumped backwards to avoid it. We stood there sizing each other until I raced forward to land a punch on his chest, winding him and letting me hit him again.
Erik staggered backwards in surprise as I picked up the knife and charged back at him. He lifted his arm to make the weapon fly out of my hand, but he stopped himself before letting it leave my hand. Instead, Erik dodged the blade and grabbed my shoulder to swing me around into his chest and trap me in his arms. The knife fell out of my hand and I was stuck there between his chest and arms.
"I win, then?" He questioned in my ear as I struggled to move out of his grip. I smirked to myself as I focused again, but letting my body take control as I let my mind clam down. Placing my foot behind Erik's knee, I swiped his feet out from under him and we both went down to the ground. I tumbled out of his arms and grabbed the knife, straddling his body as I raised it over my head.
"I win." Erik smiled at me, a real genuine smile that I haven't seen in forever and missed so much.
