Alex and I sit in the garden outside the Xavier mansion, reliving what happened less than five days ago in Cuba. Erik is gone and I couldn't believe I left him like that, without giving him a reason or purpose for staying with Charles.
"Are you alright, Cass?" I heard the young blonde boy ask as I stared at the petals of the flower next to me. Taking my attention away from the garden, I nodded my head and mustered a smile towards Alex as he grimaced at the painful grin I have on my lips. "You don't seem fine. It's about Erik, right?"
"Of course it's about Erik!" I breathed out as Alex leaned away from me apprehensively. "Sorry. It's... gonna be hard to go back. For you, me, the others, and any other mutant that has been shamed. Society doesn't understand and they probably never will but know that you have a family here at the institute."
"What about you? Are you not going to stay?" Alex questioned as I rubbed my knee cap and fixed the skirt of my dress before giving a shrug of my shoulders. "I'm not going to stay here. My family want me back home and I think that you should go to yours as well. Don't stay here where you'll feel horrible."
"Alex, I just want you to be safe. Don't-don't go and make people upset. They don't get what you have, we have, been through," I responded standing up and pulling off my fingerless gloves. "Charles will always be here for you. I will be there when you need me too."
The young teen got off of the bench and rubbed the back of his neck nervously as he heard his mother call for him. I gave a brimming smile to Alex and wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging him close and whispering in his ear.
"I want to tell you something before you leave," Alex hugged back and leaned away as he gave a questioning look. Removing my arms, I fidgeted with the gloves in my hands before speaking. "I have seen my death. There is no way around it and I must continue living my life until it comes. I have not told a person about this besides you. When I do pass, tell our friends of this and don't blame yourself or anyone else."
"Cassandra, you can't do anything to stop it?"
"Not a thing. That would mess with our world and I can not risk saving my life to destroy others," I said placing my fingers to his temple. Showing him my end, I felt relieved to finally let it out to someone else. "No one needs to know until my time comes. Alex, I trust you with this. It would break others heart to know this."
"I promise, Cass."
