Erik appeared from a hole he bended in the submarine as he made Shaw, who was dead, come out before him. He dropped the villain as he floated down slowly to the beach.
"Take off your blinders, brothers and sisters. The real enemy is out there. I can feel their guns moving in the water," Erik stated as he pointed to the battleships that are now training on the beach we are standing on. "Their metal, targeting us. Americans, Soviets, humans untied in their unknown. Go ahead Charles, tell me I'm wrong."
Erik and Charles walked down the beach together with Moria following close behind them. I removed myself from Alex's side and raced over to Erik who seemed to be loosing his mind. Placing a hand on his shoulder, I stared at him, trying to figure out why he was doing this. Why he was being like the man we tried to get rid of.
"Erik, please don't do this," I pleaded as he looked at me now with a questioning look. "Don't be like Shaw. Don't become a killer, a murderer of the human race." He removed my hand from his shoulder and looked at the incoming missiles and torpedoes and raised his hand to stop them.
I stepped back as Erik held his other arm out to hide me behind him, to protect me. Everyone on the beach held their breaths, waiting for something else to happen as Erik continued to hold the weapons in the air before he turned them around to face the humans.
"Erik, you said yourself that we're the better man. This is the time to prove it," Charles said as our friend ignored him. "There are thousands of men on those ships. Good, honest, innocent men that are just following orders."
"I've been at the mercy of men just following orders. We've been," Erik said looking over at me then at Charles to prove his point. "Never again." I took a couple steps back as everyone else moved slightly forward, waiting for Erik to do something. Then it happened, he shot the missiles through the air towards the soldiers.
"Erik, release them." Charles commanded as he started running at him. I moved farther back as I started to realize that it was going to end this way. One of us was going to win. It was between the humans and mutants anymore. It was about what was right and wrong. Following Erik or Charles. And I have to make that choice.
Charles tackled his friend to the ground and some of the missiles dropped from the sky as I watched the to two men struggle on the beach to win this silly battle. I felt a hand on my shoulder, it was Alex who was moving forward to help Charles out. Then they flew back, Erik yelled at them to leave him alone as I felt him trying not hurt me in the process of his fight.
He moved back to the weapons falling through the sky as Charles struggled with taking off his helmet that he took from Shaw. My mind started racing again as I saw the image of the three of us, Erik, Charles, and I, standing on the beach hoping one of us would win this battle of right and wrong that seemed to be never ending.
Then I heard bullets being fired. Moria was shooting her gun at Erik as he stood up and deflected them away. I yelled at him to stop as I now knew how everything was going to end. I knew my choice, who was going to win, and who was going to lose. Running over to my friend, I stopped as I saw Charles standing up and then falling back down, clutching his back.
Erik had left the missiles now and sat at Charles side as Moria stood off to the side in disbelief. I called out to Erik as I walked to him and looked over his shoulder at the bullet he just pulled from Charles back.
"I'm so sorry," Erik said to the man he now placed in his lap. "I said back off! You did this." He looked to Moria as the dog tags around her neck choked her throat, making her fall to the ground clutching at the metal. I placed my hand into Erik's shoulder as I looked up at you.
"Please, she didn't do this Erik. You do," the English man spoke to our friend as he looked back down at him. "Don't do this. You don't need to when you got us." Charles said nodding his head towards me as I watched the the chain around Moria's neck loosen.
"Us turning on each other, it's what they want. I tried to warn you, Charles. I want you by my side. We're brother you and I. Cassandra will be with us as well. All of us together, protecting each other. We want the same thing." Erik said to Charles as I removed my hand from his shoulder and stepped back.
"My friend, I'm afraid not." He spoke as Erik now allowed Moria to come over and take him from his hands. I moved away as he stood up and looked to the young mutants behind us. He asked them to follow him to win our fight with the humans and command a new world. Erik held out his hand for me as I looked between it and his eyes.
"Erik," I whispered softly as he raised it to my face and placed it on the side of my head. He said he wants me to go with him, to help start a force that will set our name among the humans. "I-I can't. Erik, I can't. This wrong, all of it. You have become the monster that we have tried to get rid of for years. I love you Erik but I can't. Not now."
I removed his hand from my face and moved in to embrace him but he showed no signs of agreeing with me so I left his side to go to Charles now. Erik looked over at me as I new I had made the right choice, but in my heart it felt wrong. It all did. I should be next to the one who stood with me through everything but I ended up with the man that wanted a better world.
I can only hope to see Erik again before the next battle we face with the humans. At that time I know I will be beside him in our fight for our rights.
