I knew I was being an asshole, but I was having a bad week.
And I knew I had to apologize, even though I hardly ever did, to everyone I had been mean to.
Not that I would tell anyone, ever, but I think I was on my man-period. No, I take that back. I never even thought that thought.
For the second time in a month I'm taking another food peace offering to Lacey. I just hope it works this time. She actually was one person that could amuse me and make me genuinely laugh.
I grip the bag of donuts and walk through the hospital door my mind effortlessly taking me down the halls towards her room.
When I get to her room I reach out to grip the handle but I can't do it. What if she dumps the donuts on my head or something? Well, I would deserve it, but donuts are to heavenly to waste. Or what if she laughs in my face and reports me and I go to jail. I mean, I'm not exactly Jesus, but I can't say I've went to jail. Actually that was once but I wasn't even sober or fully clothed-
"Ok, this is ridiculous, I can hear your brain overloading and about to explode from inside the room." An annoyed voice says opening the door.
"Wait- how did you know I was outside?" I know I hadn't made any noise; unless I had subconsciously farted or something.
"With my wizard powers!" She yanks out a wooden from her gown.
I give her a dry look.
"The door is see through from the inside you idiot." She sighs throwing the stick at my head.
"Ah. I knew that. I was making sure you hadn't gone crazy and actually didn't think you were a wizard."
She laughs for a second and then stops abruptly. "I'm supposed to be mad at you." Then she walks to her bed and looks at the tv screen.
I place the bag beside her crossing my fingers.
She looks inside and frowns. "Isn't this the dozen donut package? There are only ten." She says accusingly as I grin sheepishly.
"I was stuck and traffic and there was a bag of donuts beside me, what normal person would just let the bag sit there?" I ask scoffing.
She narrows her eyes at me and throws another stick at me that was beside her.
"Where do all these sticks keep coming from?!" I exclaim ducking behind the table in case she pulls out a log truck or something.
She laughs. "Now we're even. And if you ever ignore me like that again I will tear off your nut sack and staple it to your forehead. Okay?"
"O-okay." I gulp.
"Good." She grins.
"Alright so I was thinking about the bucket list. I thought about doing the glow in the dark bubble party thing next." She says as though we had never stopped talking and I smile. Then I remember something.
"I'll be right back!" I say running out of the room.
I sprint past the nurse we had met on the same day Charlie escaped and that Lacey had tried to keep occupied. "No running!" He yells after me but I'm already gone.
I never liked that guy. He looked to much like that guy who plays on the Percy Jackson movies or whatever they are.
Once I reach my car and grab the bag I had been keeping under the passenger seat for about a week, I run back to the room.
When I get there, I'm literally gasping for air.
"Outta' shape?" An amused Lacey asks.
"Yeah." I wheeze.
"I thought you were going to puke up those two donuts and give them to me cause' you still felt bad about it." She snorts taking the bag out of my hands.
"Don't be ridiculous, I would let it pass through my digestive system before I gave them back to you." I smirk at her horror stricken face.
"Let's just get back to business " she shudders opening the bag.
"You're right. Let me just go do my busine-" I laugh.
"Zayn!" She slaps me with the bag but I see the corners of her mouth fighting off a smile.
And that makes me smile even more.
