"So are we doing these in a certain order or....?" I ask her as she happily rereads her bucket list.
I didn't mind so much as to helping her I guess since she didn't have much time left. Plus, maybe if I get a good review or whatever, they'll cut me some slack with this volunteering.
Which will mean more time with the boys.
"I don't really mind. I think we should probably get Charlie out first though." She says chewing on the end of her pen thoughtfully.
After I help wheel chair all the cancer ward children (12 and under) I go back to Lacey's room. I had to admit that the kids weren't actually that bad. One of the little girls even drew me a picture of a flower. Not that I actually kept it or anything...
Ok fine, it was in my wallet but no one had to know.
"I am a genius!" Lacey exclaims as I walk in.
"Really now?" I ask.
She nods shaking her head quickly up and down grinning like a maniac.
"So here's the plan." She makes a chopping movement with her hand and holds up her sketch pad with the other.
She has actually wrote her plan out on the pages like on movies and I chuckled a bit.
She continues to tell me the plan flipping the page over every few minutes.
"Get it? Got it? Good." she says leaving no room for me to ask questions.
So when 3:00 rolls around I'm hiding in a bush outside. Being legit right now, there's like a new species of worm crawling in the bush and I shimmy away from it.
God dude. Now you're shimmying. I need a break from this shit.
Then I see it. The garden doors open and several patients walk out.
Everyday between 3 and 5 patients were aloud to go outside to the garden area and walk around if they wanted to. The garden was fenced in by large hedge about eight feet tall.
Poor Charlie was only about 5'7.
I wonder if you really do shrink when you grow old. Kind of like what happens to grapes when they dry out. Shriveling up and becoming crusty. I shudder.
Then I see it. Lacey walking out with Charlie. Now she was wearing a bandana around her head. I had come to realize over the past few days how insecure she was without her hair.
Since the escape, Charlie has had a designated nurse watching over him. Apparently she was to distract the nurse and I was getting Charlie over the hedge.
Isn't that a movie?
She walks up to a guy in a white outfit and starts talking and smiling. Nows my chance.
"Cock- cah ashjabskswi." I was supposed to sound like a 'cooing dove' as Lacey put it but I swear the worm species flew in my mouth and I started choking.
As I'm choking I don't really know what going on and next thing I know I'm being shoved and I slam into something.
Still coughing I am clutching the grass (I think it's grass) for my life.
This didn't go as planned. I take in ragged breathes hoping no one will have to give me the Heimlich maneuver.
I hope the worm species doesn't give me bathroom problems I think.
