Chapter 27
Sam's POV
I've said it once, I'll say it again. I hate trains. I despise them. But this wasn't like the last time. No. This time, I was going back to where I started. I was sort of going backwards... But I'm not. I had Matt.
Matt was lying asleep on his arm chair next to me. His head drooped, curls covering his face and a light movement when his chest rose and fell. Silently sleeping as the train travelled through the English countryside. His eyelashes fanned across his cheek bones, and his cheeks a rosy pink. I sat next to him wide awake. I can't sleep on trains. Or any moving vehicle of that matter.
April arrived back with two cups if tea in polystyrene mugs. The steam curled off the top like smoke from a chimney. I blew across the top, ridding the rim of the hot gas, and continued to stare out of the window. Matt cuddled my arm closer in as my body shifted a little. I turned back to him and brushed the loose curls from his perfect face. "He looks so peaceful sleeping." I whispered to April, who was looking at both of us. He did. He didn't seem to be dark and dangerous. Just sleeping calmly, almost childlike. His pink lips curve up into a small smile, which made me mirror the action.
"How do you think you're parents are going to react?" April asked. Turning my head to her, I furrowed my brows in confusion. "That your boyfriend is a hard core singer that smokes and has tattoos." I laugh at her comment, but in reality, I think my mother would have a heart attack.
**FLASH BACK**
I walk out of the pub that Elisa Smiles had just played in. Many drunk men standing by the back door, smoking cigarettes. Although I'm sure that there is some lovely ones, I'd prefer the drunk men to the screaming abusive fans. Matt got in touch with the security at the pub to make sure the no fans come back stage. Matt had now gone around the front to see them. It gives him an adrenaline rush. He'd told me to go meet him out side by the car after I'd collected my things.
The autumn breeze slowly whistling, I search the car park for Matt's black BMW. Eventually I spot the metal object, but I see something. A trail of silver smoke coming from the car window. I stagger over to it and see Matt pressing the cigarette between his lips. Inhaling and exhaling the harmful fumes.
He jumps when he sees me. "Sam!" He says. I stand there... looking at him... Stunned. "I-I-I thought y-you would be a l-little longer." I only shake me head... I don't know what to say. "I don't do it often! I promise! Just I came out here and smelt all the smoke and I just had to! I can't-" I cut him off short by me taking the cigarette and inhaling the fumes. It's never done this before so I didn't know what to do. I held it in for a few moments but it stated to burn my eyes and I spluttered and coughed the poisonous gas out.
He chuckles at my pathetic attempt and smiles sympathetically at me.
Still spluttering I walk around to the other side and enter the car. He's still giggling under his breath when he turns to me and crash his lips into mine. The kiss deepens and eventually he pulls away, still begging for it to continue. He presses his forehead to mine. "I promise, no more" he whispers, before we drive off into the darkness of night.
**END OF FLASHBACK**
"I think she'd have a heart attack!" I laughed. Even though he isn't bad, my mother doesn't approve of roughens.
The train came to a halt at my home town station. It was nothing compared to London. A cold dank dark undercroft. The train whistle echoes through the empty tunnels. A certain eeriness made me feel uncomfortable, so we took the slow creaking escalator to the surface. Again as before, it was quite... April, Ruby, Matt and I were the only people in the crappy station... The smell of alcohol even on a early Tuesday morning. Damp. Dull. And desolate.
Walking outside our families were waiting, I couldn't see my mother until I saw her green eyes an winning smile. I ran to her and hugged her so tightly. I cried into her shoulder. She cried into mine. "I love you" I whispered. She replied with the same. Eventually pulling away, I turned to Matt standing next to me very awkwardly. "Oh this is my boyfriend Matt!" She greeted him with a warm hug. Taken by surprise, he was crushed in my mother embrace. His face squashed against my mother's shoulder, I took pity and subtly pulled them apart.
A short car ride home, I walked into the main living room. My entire family were there including my great family: Uncle Billy, auntie Eleanor, Uncle Ray, etc. But then I spotted someone in the corner... Who I though if never see under this roof again...
My father.
