-Hey, I got your message- Bastian stopped when he saw Claudia's face-Everything fine, Dia?
She didn't answer, instead she patted the place next to her on the couch.
-You're honestly freaking me out Dia- Bastian tried to say jokingly as he said down but the tension somehow made its way through his act- Are you alright? It's not about your appointment, right? Please tell me your not sick or something- his act was completely gone, pure anxiety in his voice.
-Oh god, no- Claudia immediately reassured him- I'm completely fine, well not exactly but physically I'm as fit as a fiddle.
-Good- relief ran through his face- You really scared me, Dia- he added and caressed her petite hand.
-Sorry, I didn't mean to- her voice was calm but her eyes never met his.
-It's okay, I mean...- Bastian stopped when he replayed her previous sentence in his mind- What do you mean, your physically fine? Hey, what is wrong?- his voice was dripping with tenderness as he delicately caught her chin and forced her to look at him.
-I thought we could avoid this, I really did but we can't, I' can't...
-Claudia what on earth are you talking about?- Bastian stopped her from rambling more.
She took a deep breath before she opened her eyes and started speaking again.
-Basti you know I love you and nothing could ever change that but this- she pointed at him and then at herself- isn't going to work. I really wish it could but it can't.
-What do you mean is not going to work? Is this some kinda sick joke, Dia?- Bastian asked, this time with a raise voice. He was praying that she was in fact, mocking him but everything in her eyes told otherwise.
-I mean that you don't belong here Bastian, you don't belong with me- she finally said, looking him in the eyes for the first time.
-Dia- he caught her hands and brought her closer- next to you is exactly where I belong.
-No, Bastian- she put her hands back on her knees as she put a little more distance between her and the footballer- You're not a small-town boy, you never were but now you're not just Basti anymore. You're the Bastian Schweinsteiger, the rising star and this is not enough for you.
-Dia, please stop- his desperate request was muttered under his breath.
-No, Bastian because one of us has to do this because it would happen eventually. Maybe in few weeks, maybe in couple years but it would. I don't fit into your world anymore- she took another shaky breath- and you don't fit into mine.
-Claudia- he started but one look at her face was enough to make him stop. Claudia's made her decision. And there was no turning back.
If only he fought harder...

Bastian's POV
-Bastian- a familiar, tender voice whipped me from my dream. I rubbed my eyes as a huge yawn escaped my mouth.
I opened my eyes I saw Sarah's beautiful face only inches away from mine. Her usually sparkling eyes were now flat and I was the one to be blamed for that.
-Hey- I said quietly waiting for her to respond.
Every other time she would place a gentle kiss on my lips or my cheek but today wasn't like every other day.
Sarah closed her eyes, took a deep breath and after couple seconds moved away me.
-How was your day?- she finally asked when she collapsed next to me on the sofa.
I looked at her and realized that even though it was the last thing I wanted to do, we had to sort things out.
-Sarah, I...- I stuttered and found myself unable to say anything else. Here I was, a twenty year old guy unable to act like a man.
-Bastian, I read that article- Sarah mumbled, again proving to be the better part of us- I did read it and believe me when I say that at first I had no idea what to think.
-Sarah...
-Please Bastian, let me finish- she said rigidly but there was no sign of anger in her voice- I've been preparing this speech for a while. I didn't know what to think but I had a lot of time to think and...- she suddenly stopped and fixed her big eyes on me.
I looked at her, searching for any signs of what was going to come next but it was pointless.
-Sarah?- I asked when the silence made me feel like I was slowly suffocating.
-Bastian, I know she was your first love. You didn't have to tell me that, I could tell from the way you looked when you talked about her- she quickly added when she saw my surprised expression- I understand that you cannot forget about her because first love never dies, right?- she said more to herself than to me.
-That's true Sarah but that doesn't change the fact that I love you- I answered, being one hundred percent sure I was right.
-I know you do Bastian- a small delicate smile appeared on her face- but if you have feeling for her, than please don't hide it from me. We're going to get married and I need to know if you are able to fully commit.
She turned around to face me and lifted my chin so I had to look her in the eyes.
-Bastian I will understand if you walk away because you love her just...- Sarah quieted for a second before speaking again- Just don't let me be the last to know.
Having said that, she delicately pressed her lips to mine. The kiss didn't last long before she pulled away and stood up.
Before I could say anything she left the house leaving more confused and hurt than I was before.
