deafening silence (Bill Temple)

I awake every night

as it overtakes me

grasping me tightly

refusing to let me be

no wind blows outside

no eerie creaks

no lonely tap dripping

no voices in the street

just a total emptiness

has me walking the fence

wondering when i will fall

inside this deafening silence
