I stare through the living room window
into the darkness beyond
a darkness that has settled
since the second you were gone
I see the tree we planted
it was just a year ago
now silent in the darkness
it simply refuses to grow
I see a vision of you
as clear as a sunny day
but when I open the front door
it is just an empty driveway
