The Storming of the Bastillle

After the National Assembly was formed Louis tried to make peace. He ordered the clergy and the nobles to join the National Assembly, however trouble erupted. There were rumors that Louis paid Swiss soldiers to attack French citizens. On July 14, 1789 an angry crowd of people stormed the Bastille, the Bastille was a prison where they held psychotic patients. There were only 3 prisoners in there while they raided it. They wanted gunpowder for their weapons in order to defend themselves and the city. This event is known as the "Storming of the Bastille". It's also known as the French Independence Day. They paraded the head of the governor around the streets on a pole.
