Guardian of Memories

Chapter 12

"Looks like we're doing this again, huh?" Touka said, sighing.

"Doing what?" I panted. We had been walking toward the cafe for what seemed like forever.

"You coming to stay at my place after a fight with him." I looked at her in surprise.

"Th-that's, well.. Yeah, but last time, I wasn't in this condition. I probably wouldn't have left him alone like that if I weren't."

"Honestly, it's for the best. Not that you're injured, but to leave him alone for a bit. What he said was unforgivable," she said, grinding her teeth.

"You weren't too friendly yourself." I laughed.

"Tch. I don't like him."

I laughed even harder. "Yeah, I know, I know." All the laughter made me wince. "I totally forgot that I basically got impaled." The pain from my wound was almost unbearable at this point. I could feel myself leaning on Touka more and more.

"Hey, are you okay?" she asked. I nodded and smiled up at her. She gave me a concerned look but continued going.

We had made it to the cafe, but Touka paused before we could make it closer to the building. I used as much strength as I could to lift my head again to look at her. "Touka, wha-"

"Sh. There are three people in front of the cafe," she said, staring up ahead. I looked over to see Reena, Satoshi, and some other girl; they hadn't seemed to notice us yet.  I guess that girl was the one Reena helped out. I could see her face now that she wasn't wearing her mask, but she didn't seem familiar. She had a darker skin tone and a huge stylish mess of curls on her head; like an afro. I wonder how the hell she got all that to fit in her hood earlier.. "Do you know them?" Touka asked, looking down at me.

"Yeah. It's alright. I know them. I guess they came to check on me. Funny, I was going to do the same to them once I got better." I smiled, nudging Touka so she'd continue dragging me along.

"Faye-chan!" Reena gasped as we reached them. "I'm so glad that you're okay!" It looked like she was about to launch herself at me, but Satoshi held her back.

"Can't you see that she's hurt?" he said.

"Oh! I'm sorry! I was just so happy to see you alive," she sighed in content and helped hold me up while Touka unlocked the door.

We all entered the cafe while Touka locked the door back behind us. "I'm going to the basement really quick. Take her upstairs to my room."

Reena nodded and tried to carry me to the stairs. "Reena, you're hurt," I said. I couldn't see any major wounds, but her clothes were stained with blood. It wouldn't surprise me, I didn't get to see Mado fight, but I'm pretty sure I was the lucky one when I took on Amon.

"I'm fine, Faye-chan."

"Tch. You're too slow," Satoshi grumbled, taking me from her hold and placing me on his back. "Mo, help Reena up the stairs."

"You'll have to introduce me to her," I whispered into his ear. I didn't have much energy left, so I just relaxed against his back.

"Jeez, don't do that, it's weird."

"You tease her too much," Reena said, swatting at her brother.

Once we got inside the apartment, Satoshi laid me gently on the floor. Well, after letting my head hit the floor. "Ow! You know, I would think my head would be more important to be gentle with than my body."

"Oh, you're fine. In other situations, yeah, but you've got serious wounds on you're body. I'm more focused on not hurting them too much." He looked over at my face as he sat down beside me. "Not, that I care."
