Apparently the mental link surgery that Kanou put us under was the same surgery he had put Reena and Satoshi under; which explains their 'conversation' last year, and why Satoshi mentioned Kanou when I had asked. They were an experiment, but with them, he'd perfected it. The only thing is, both subjects must be ghouls. Something about the RC levels being a big factor on the success of the procedure. 'Another reason why humans are the inferior species' he says, or something like that. He explained that, because of his research, I can now look into Kaneki's mind whenever I wanted; however, he can access mine as well. I can now see what he sees, feel exactly what he feels, hear what he hears, know exactly what he's thinking, etc. whenever and wherever I want. It may have been totally against both of our wills, but starting today, this could actually be pretty useful.

I've just been discharged, so I decided to go to Kaneki's room. He still wasn't conscious, but he looked a lot better than any other human would have after what he had just gone through.

"What's he done to you, Ken," I sighed, walking over the sit on the edge of his bed.

"Such a tragedy.." I murmured, softly grabbing onto his left hand. His left eye suddenly opened, scaring me half to death. I had jumped up, having a miniature heart attack, while he stayed completely silent. "What the hell?" I breathed, sneaking closer to examine him.

He's still unconscious, but that wasn't what I was thinking about. His eye... I got even closer, trying to figure out if what I was seeing was correct. That's a... ghoul's eye.

I gasped and ran out of the room, looking for Dr. Kanou. After looking all over the damned hospital, I had finally found him in the employee's lounge.

"Hey Miss, you can't be in here!" a woman said, standing to her feet. I growled at her and she sat right back down. I turned back and glared at Kanou.

He just smiled at me as he slowly rose up to his feet. "I suppose you want that explanation now."

"What do you mean he's a ghoul now?!" I screamed as softly as I could. We were talking privately in his office, but if I'm not careful, I'm sure a lot of people would here me through these walls.

"Well, technically he's a half ghoul. I told you that I had to do what I had to do to save his life."

"That may be what you tell the press, Kanou, but you aren't fooling me! Rize's organs alone shouldn't have done that to him, right?" I was hysterical at this point. What had I done?!

"Alright, you got me. I admit, you're a pretty smart girl," Kanou said, smirking before he continued. "I also did a little experimenting on him; like I said in our previous chat."

"What exactly did you do to make him this way?" I said through clenched teeth.

"I implanted one of Rize Kamishiro's kakuhous as well. It's a little experiment that I've done a few times before. I just have a feeling that Kaneki will cause my research to fly more than my previous subjects."

Reena and Satoshi.

"You didn't have permission to do that," I yelled.

"I didn't have permission to do a lot of things, Ms. Hatanaka," he sighed. It was more of a satisfied sigh, which only pissed me off more. "I'm currently taking the heat for transplanting her organs without her family's permission. She doesn't seem to have any family, but the fact that she wasn't an organ donor is still a big issue for some. You, of course, can't do anything about the rest of my procedure without putting your friend in danger. So, I don't really have anything to worry about, do I?"
