"Here we are!" Okasa cheered as she opened the door to our home.
I stepped inside after both of them had entered. It was small, but a cozy kind of small; big enough for all of us.
Kaneki offered to give me a tour of the place and I accepted. We visited the living room, the kitchen, the bathroom, and the two bedrooms. The last stop was a big, dark room full of books. There was a big desk and chair in front of us.
"This is Otōsan's study," he said, grabbing a book before climbing into the chair and placing it on the desk.
"Otōsan?" I questioned.
"It means father. Kinda like how Okasan means mother," he explained.
"So your mama's name means mama?"
"No, dummy! I don't know her name, but that's what I call her instead of mama."
So I called his mama, my mama? So that's what he meant earlier! Does that mean Okasan is my mama now?
He slammed the book open and started to read.
"Woah, so cool! You can read?" I squealed, stepping onto my tip toes to get a better look. It was hard to do without falling over.
"I wish! But no, I can't," he sighed.
"But you talk better than me." I grabbed at a page and flipped it over.
"That doesn't mean I can read. Hey! I was reading that!" He yelled, turning the page back.
"No you weren't!" I laughed. He huffed and hopped off of the chair. I lost my balance and fell over.
"Ow," I whined. I tried getting up, but it was hard. I eventually gave up and stayed down.
"Why can't you walk good?" he asked, sitting down on the floor beside me.
"I don't know. It's hard."
"C'mon! Let's go ask Okasan." He got up, pulling me up and dragging me close behind him.
Mama was cooking in the kitchen. It smelt weird. Good thing I wasn't hungry. I didn't want to hurt mama's feelings if it tasted bad.
"Okasa! We wanna know why Faye can't walk like me," Kaneki asked, tugging on her skirt.
"Well Kaneki, I assume that you're older than Faye." She smiled down at us.
"But she's just as big as me," he whined.
"Then we will ask the doctor later next week when we take her for a check up."
"Okay, Okasan!" He clapped his hands and went back to the study. My legs were tired, so I sat down on the ground and watched mama cook. A while later, it was all done.
"Kaneki! Dinner's ready!" Mama called. I heard his footsteps pounding the ground as he ran into the kitchen. Mama picked me up and put me in a chair.
She sat a plate in front of each of us. Kaneki dug right in while I stared at it for a moment. I was starting to get hungry, but I didn't want to eat it.
"Is something wrong?" Mama asked. I shook my head and smiled. She nodded and turned around, preparing herself a plate.
I picked up some white stuff that they called rice, and put it in my mouth. I almost spit it out, but I remember how much she worked to make it. Kaneki was already almost done, so I guess it was good. I might just not like rice. I picked up something green.
"Ken!" I whispered-yelled. He looked up at me with his mouth full. "What's this thing?"
"That's a vegetable," he said after he swallowed his food.
"Oh." I took a bite out of it. It tasted so yucky! I guess I don't like vegetable. I kept eating so that mama would be happy, but after a few bites, I felt sick.
