"Congratulations Faye and Touka. You are officially a part of the Anteiku team!" Irimi cheered. Finally being 16, I was really happy to finally work here! I worked to pay for all of the food I ate and the human food I've been taking to Kaneki. Touka is working to pay back for school. I'm surprised that Yoshimura actually convinced her to go.
Kaneki tried to get me to go to Kamii University with him, but there's no way that I could have passed the entrance exam with my disability. Eventually he gave up.
Touka is still skeptical about going, but she says she'll study hard to pass the exam.

Ayato on the other hand; he's not having any of it. He's never been really social with us, but it's gotten a lot worse since Touka became friends with a human. Yoriko, I think, was her name. She seemed sweet, but Ayato despises the thought of interacting with humans.

"Thank you, Irimi!" we said in unison.
I started today while Touka started tomorrow. She had plans with Yoriko today. She was already pulling at her arm, seemingly excited about their plans. Touka just rolled her eyes and laughed, trying to calm her friend. I could see why she found her interesting.

"See ya Touka!" I waved as she left. I went upstairs to her room to prepare myself. I tied up my hair and put on my uniform. I was putting my shoes on when I heard a familiar voice.

"There she goes again." I looked up to see Ayato looking out the window. "I don't know how many times I have to tell her."

"Tell her what?" I asked, standing up and walking over to the window. I saw Touka calmly walking away as Yoriko twirled around in circles. She seems like a lot of fun.

"To stop playing with her food."

My jaw dropped as I looked at him. "Why would you say something like that?"

He met my gaze and sighed, unamused.
"Don't you get it, Faye? Humans are nothing more than back stabbers who will stop at nothing to kill you once they find out what you really are. That's why they should never be considered as more than food. I thought Touka would have learned that when our father died."

I looked down at my hands. "Look, I may not know much about your past, but for one, Touka says he's not dead."

"Tch." He rolled his eyes, looking out the window in disgust.

"Second, she told me a little bit about him, and he raised you to blend in with them. Why take such a sudden turn? Humans really aren't that bad. We can learn a lot about them just by being with them. Some can be dangerous, but others can be very accepting."

"What do you think of him?" he asked, nodding his head toward two people on the sidewalk, about to enter the café. "Kaneki, right? Do you think he's dangerous?"

I looked at Ayato now. "Of course not. Kaneki wouldn't hurt a fly. I've been with him for a long time now, he doesn't pose a threat to me."

"Then why won't you tell him you're little secret?" he asked with a smirk on his face.

"Because," I paused. Because I promised mama. "I don't have to answer that."

"It's because he wouldn't accept you, right?"

Heat rose to my cheeks. "That's not it at all!" I hadn't noticed I was yelling until a saw the stupid smirk on his face get bigger. "It's just... too personal."

"Whatever." he went to his bedroom, closing the door.
I just let out a frustrated sigh before checking my appearance in the mirror.
I let my eyes change color. The blue was replaced by red and the whites were taken over by the black that us ghouls are known for.

Would you accept me, Ken?

I went downstairs and greeted Koma.
