Chapter 7

Hidden prison facility, Richmond, Virginia.

"How could you have let him slip through your fingers?" The voice from the shadows gave Mikael the chills as he surveyed the damage done by Bellamy. The unrecognizable bodies had already been cleared away, leaving nothing but charred bits of clothing and blackened walls made darker by the flickering lights.

All that work, getting the emissaries to trust him, wasted. The fact that he had been arrogant enough to allow Morgin to distract him left Mikael in a very sour mood.

"You can tell your master that this little problem is being handled." Mikael snapped, surprising himself. Until a day ago he would never had done anything to anger this "person" he was talking to. Thankfully, for Mikael, the voice in the shadows took no offence.

"How did Morgin even know you were here?" It's voice was raspy and deep but did not change in tone.

"I think, given the events of the last day, I should see your face before I answer." Mikael faced the direction that the voice originated. At first all he heard was breathing, then footsteps.

"Is this what you wanted to see?" Came the voice from behind Mikael. Mikael whirled around, not realizing the man to which the voice belonged had moved.

Mikael could hardly believe his eyes; the creature standing before him looked like he had been through hell and just barely survived.

"Are you satisfied with what you see?" He rasped. Mikael slowly nodded.

"It has been made apparent that you do not have it handled, Mikael. That is why I am here." The creature growled.

"I assure you that I will succeed in our plan." Mikael swallowed nervously, not noticing that the shadows were deepening. "Tell your master that the son of Dalen Ward will not become an Alpha."

"I hope not, for your sake. You remember what happened to the last person who displeased my master." The creature began to back up until the shadows claimed him and he disappeared in a whisper of smoke.
