Chapter 2
That was too easy. Kora thought to herself. The two of them had escaped the prison with little effort; not even the other inmates had uttered a sound when they tore past each cell and exited the building. I don't like this, Morgin should have been here by now.
"Hey Dragon Boy, hurry and get dressed." Kora shouted back at Bellamy, who had managed to find a pare of white scrubs in a staff closet and was now hurriedly getting in them.
"Coming." Came the muffled croak; the dragon boy had hardly spoken in full sentences since they met and seemed quite content to stay that way.
Kora sighed, her breath visible in the chilly air; she could see the stars were beginning to peek out from the inky blue of the sky, hinting at the cold, clear night that was to come.
He stepped out from behind the tree and cleared his throat, getting Kora's attention; she fought the urge to point out that they had not gotten a pair of shoes for him and that his pale feet must be freezing. Instead she studied his face with a blank expression.
Dirty silver hair that fell in tangles over his pointed ears, and almond shaped eyes that were as black as the night sky. And tall, he had to have been at least 6'5. So you are the fabled Bellamy Ward. Not what I expected.
"Who are you?" His voice was low and deep, like thunder when the storm was still far away.
Kora shook her head. "Not here."
She began walking, clearly expecting Bellamy to follow, but turned back when she noticed he didn't move.
" Hurry, we need to leave this place before the prison guards figure out where we are." Kora hissed back at him.
"No, not until you tell me who you are, where we are going, and why you helped me." Bellamy's voice was thick with mistrust.
Kora swore under her breath, they could both hear the alarms from the prison blaring in the distance, but Bellamy did not acknowledge it.
"Fine, but we will walk while I explain. And my name is Kora Frostgrove." Bellamy nodded and slowly picked his way among the rocks and thorns that littered the ground until he caught up with her.
"What do you know of your...... Ability?"
"I know I can become a dragon and that instantly labels me as a freak in need of a cage. I know that there are a few others like me." Bitterness twisted Bellamy's otherwise handsome face into something ugly.
"What? That's it?" Kora's voice was shrill with disbelief. Shite, I would have thought that he knew a little more than this.
"Do you at least know who your parents were?" Bellamy slowly shook his head.
"Well it looks like I'll have to start at the beginning." Kora paused to look around at where they were, when her eyes alighted on something sticking out of the hollowed out part of a tree; it was a moss green jacket and brown leather gun holster.
As Kora was putting on the jacket, she caught Bellamy staring at the pendant hanging from a leather cord around her neck. It was a wood carving of a giant panther with an emerald in it's jaws. She zipped the jacket up high enough to cover the pendant.
"Bellamy, do you know where you came from?" Kora sent him a sharp look when she caught him staring, again.
Bellamy again shook his head.
"For as long as I could remember I was passed along from one Mythic to another; that's how I knew about the elves and mermaids and such, but never any dragons.""Well, there is only one way to say this," Kora stopped walking to look up at Bellamy. "you're only half dragon. Your father was a dragon and your mother was human."
Ok, so that wraps up Chapter 2! How do ya'll think Bellamy will take this news? Let me know what ya'll think of the ending!
