I was in the drivers seat of the Dodge Challenger I had gotten from my mother and step-father for graduating from college at the early age of 21. I had finished highschool at a young age, 15 to be exact, and started college as soon as possible, wanting to become a nurse. I was following my step father, who was in his Cadilac Escalade. We both were traveling from sunny Southern California, to rainy La Push Washington. My half sister was happily playing with her toys in my back seat. She had elected to ride in my car when we reached the half way point.
My phone started to ring and I told the dark haired half Native American girl to quiet down. "Hello?" I spoke as I answered the phone and flipped it on speaker phone since I did not know if it was illegal in Washington. "How is my baby girl doing?" I heard my step father's voice ask. "Daddy!" My half-sister, Tala, cried out in joy. "Are we almost to our new home?" She asked. "Not quite, hun, we have to make a quick stop to your uncle's house." He told her. "Now, I want you to be patient and be a perfect little angel for your sister. Ask her to put on one of your songs. Be safe girls." He continued. "Love you daddy!" Tala shouted. I heard my step-father chuckle. "Love you too, sweetie." With that he hung up.
"Trinity, can we listen to Jonas Brothers?" She asked in a sweet innocent voice. "Of course, love." I replied as I connected my iphone to my car and put on her favorite song from the band. I was thankful she didn't want to listen to any of the other silly artists that she loved. This was one of the few I could tolerate. Within the next ten minutes we had reached our destination and my step-father pulled into the driveway as I pulled up along the curb in front of the house.
I got out of my car and looked to the sky, noting that it was mostly cloudy, with little sun poking through the clouds. I looked to my surfboard as I walked around my car to let Tala out. It made me wonder if I would find a decent surf spot out here. When I let the young girl out of the car and she ran up to her father. He was full Native American, and he recently started to allow his hair to grow out. I was the odd one out of the three, being British, Scottish, and Irish. He was eight years younger than my mother, but they were so in love, and I approved of him since he made her so happy.
I picked up my pace and caught up to my half sister and step father at the door. He knocked on the door and a young Native American woman with a scar on her face opened the door. Her confused look turned into a large smile. "John!" She said in an excited voice as she hugged him. "Emily. you are as beautiful as ever." He had a huge grin on his face. "Sam is very lucky." She nodded then turned to look to Tala who was next to her father, she hugged his leg in a shy manor. "Who is this pretty little girl?" She asked. "This is Tala." He said, proudly. "Tala this is your future aunt, Emily."
I had never felt so left out in my life. The two adults are full Native American, my half sister is half Native American, and I am the only white person around. It didn't help that the two kept talking as if I wasn't there, but I guess it didn't help that I stood behind my step father. I was starting to miss my mother now, she was always better at making sure I was never left out. By thinking of my mother, my mood dropped drastically, but I made sure my exterior did not show my mood. I grabbed out my phone to look at a map to find a good place to find a surfing point, thankful that I had my bikini on out of habit.
"Oh, who is this?" Her voice drew me out of my thoughts. My step-father turns and frowned, disappointed in himself for forgetting that I was even there. "Trinity." I said simply. My step-father stepped in before I could say anything else. "She was Anne's daughter." Poor choice of words, John. "I am still her daughter, even though she is dead." I snapped, angered. "I'm going to this First Beach place to find a surf spot. Text me the address of the house and I'll meet you there later." I told him. "I'm sorry our first meeting sucked, I'll make it up later. It was nice to meet you, Emily." I walked to my car, and was a bout to jump in when I heard Tala calling my name. "Can I go with you, Trinity?" I frowned. "Sorry, baby, I am going to surf and will be unable to watch you. Stay with your dad and next time I will take you. Now go on back." She ran back to her father and when I made sure she was safe, I closed my car door and drove off.
I took my surfboard down from the roof of my car once I parked near my destination. I grabbed my wax and quickly waxed my board before leaving my car. I grabbed only the things I would need, a bag to put my clothes in along with my keys, locked my car up and headed down to the beach with my board. I noticed a group of guys down by the beach, but ignored them as I reached near the shore and took of my shorts and shirt placing them in the bag with my keys and phone. I then swam out to the ocean to see if I could catch any waves.
I loved surfing. It was the best way I could release the anger that my father brought upon me. He was always forgetting about me, and then he feels bad about it, so he will turn around and buy me some useless technology. One time it was an ipod, then he graduated to the ipod touch, followed by the iphone, and then an Ipad. I was sick of the way he would apologize to me. All I wanted was for him to love me like he loves my half sister...the way my mother loved me. I couldn't help it but release my tears of pain and frustration flow from my eyes. As I did so, the largest wave of the day came up. I went to catch it, but I could not see clearly due to the tears. The wave was a little rougher than I had expected, and it threw me from my board, causing me to tumble under the wave.
Luckily my board was still attatched to my leg, which floats in the water, telling me which way is air. I gasped for air as I reached the shore, coughed a little, and laid down in the sand, looking up at the sky. The tears were still flowing from my eyes, I was still releasing the pain from my mother's death, that I had not released a week ago when she had died. No one understood why she had died, or how she had died. My step father would tell me it was from a wild animal that she had encountered on her nightly jogs, but I could tell in his eyes that he was lying.
Still frustrated, I let out a relatively loud irritated grunt, then closed my eyes. I was so lost in my thoughts that I had not noticed the group of guys almost to where I laid in the sand. "Is she alright?" I heard one ask. "How am I suppose to know? I can only see what you can." Another shot back, irritated. He was the first one to reach me. "I'm not dead or hurt." I said, with my eyes closed. I heard an audible sigh from them. I decided to get up and when I did I saw five shirtless, muscular, and handsome Native American men. I got a good look at them and concluded they had to be about 20 at least if not 23. I grabbed my bag, taking my phone out to look at the time.
"Shit." I mumbled, noticing that I had been out there for about two hours. "Well I need to take off now. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll run into you guys again. Until then." I winked at them, took the strap off of my foot, grabbed my surfboard and ran up to my car. I tied my board back to the roof of my car, and grabbed my shorts and shirt from my bag, putting them on over my sandy body, grabbing my keys out of the bag and throwing the empty bag in my back seat. I got into the drivers seat and drove to my house, not worried that my step father would be pissed off.
