I took a deep breath and watched my body one last time, before stepping outside of the room of my hospital. My eyes glanced around the hallway, looking for an exit sign or anything, and sure enough, at the end of the hallway was a heavy, large, dark green, metal door.
Above the door was a lite up sign and in green writing was written Exit. The hallway was dark, and empty. I breathed in and out, finalizing my decision, asking myself is it really the end? Was I really going to give up?
I breathed out one last time and my feet led me towards the end of the hallway. My fingers free falling and trailing the side of the tile walls around me. My fingernails scratching at the paint as I walked.
I stopped short and looked at the exit door right in front of me. My hand reached out with my command and wrapped itself around the warm metal of the door. With my hands shaking I pulled open the door, the slow motion, the door flew open and a bright light streamed threw the hallways.
Then the crying, the loud crying from a newborn baby filled the sound in the hallway. I looked behind me and closed the door, the light falling back behind the door.
