I still remember that day like it happened this morning. It was one of the worst days of my life. It was the day I was betrayed by my best friend. It felt like my heart was being stabbed repeatedly and my lungs were on fire.

None of that compares to what I felt right now. Nothing. I didn't cry. I couldn't. I hade no tears. Nothing. I couldn't sleep. I was afraid of the nightmares.

"Alice you can't mope around in your bedroom all day. Come talk to me " Iris my best friend I met at college spoke from outside my bedroom door.

I shuffled over and pulled the door open slowly. She slipped in and pulled me into a gentle hug.

"Are you okay?"

"No"

"Then talk too me"

"Remember I told you about my best friend at high school"

"Payton?" she asked and I nodded.

"Okay before I left for college she started dating my crush. Cody. Cody and I were friends. Not best friends but friends from diapers. When I was fourteen I realised I had feelings for him. I didn't tell him afraid he'd reject me" I paused and then went on with my story.

"Payton came into the school when I was sixteen. She was struggling to make friends because girls didn't like her. She was bossy. A know it all. Bitchy. Guys adored her. Thus girls rejected her. I felt sorry for her and befriended her. I am not going to lie she did use me a lot and manipulate me from time to time. But I learnt to love and accept her"

" I had started trusting her and told her everything. One day I told her u had strong feelings for Cody. Two weeks later they were dating. It broke me. She came running into my bedroom one day. Smiling and squealing. She jumped onto my bed and announced that she and Cody were officially together."

" I acted all happy and everything but inside it felt like something had died. The worst thing was that before I told her I like Cody. She thought he was a arrogant prick. That used girls like toys. She despised him. Until I told her I liked him"

"That's low!" Iris stated and j chuckled lowly.

"That's not all. I told her it was wrong and she shouldn't have gone after him. But she waved me off and told me I wasn't good enough for him. The next year I left for College she super jealous, because she thought she was the smartest thing out there"

"I heard from another friend that they had broken up shortly after I left. I was happy in a sick way. I know it was wrong to be happy about their failed relationship but I was in love with this guy. I still am! But they're getting married and then she has the nerve to invite me to the wedding! As the maid of honour!" I yelled the last bit and Iris drew in a sharp breath.

"Oh no. You're not thinking of going are you?!"

"No. Yes. Maybe
I don't know. I am her only friend. The other brides maids are her sisters. Cousins. And Cody's sister." I explained.

"This is not about her it's about you. Do you want to go?" Iris asked tenderly.

"I haven't seen her in four years. Neither have I seen Cody maybe-" I was cut off when my phone rang.

"Hi this is Alice Woods. To whom am I speaking?" I asked politely.

"Ali it's me Payton!" Her girly voice said over the phone.

"Hi Pay. How did you get my number?"

"I stalked you on Facebook. Listen dear have you received my letters?" She asked and as she spoke I out her on speaker phone.

"Uh yes I have"

"Then why haven't you called to say you were coming. You are coming right? Like I don't know what I'd do if you weren't here. A girl needs her best friend on her big day!" She giggled.

"Uh yes I am coming"

"Oh great! Oh are you still in contact with that blonde girl?"

"Which one?" I asked.

"She has really long hair. The one in your profile photo!"

"Oh Iris...yes why?"

"Ask her if she wants to be one of my bridesmaids. Cody's cousin can't make it.
Stupid bitch."

"Pay you don't even know her"

"Doesn't matter she's pretty enough and I really need another bridesmaid"

"Why?"

"Because seven is my lucky number"

"Fine I'll talk to her. But she might not come."

"Why not? Does she have anything better to do?"

"Yes, she does
She has a boyfriend here and flying all the way to Italy for a strangers wedding is not her favourite thing to do. And she's got work."

"Her boyfriend can be her plus one and I'll ring her work"

"Payton..." I sighed.

"Honey who are you talking to?" A deep male voice spoke up.

"Babe I'm talking to Alice. Come say hi" I heard Payton reply.

"Hi Alice" he said and tears gathered in my eyes.

"Hi Cody" I said.

"Okay Ali I have to go. I'll see you in three days!"

"No. Payton I'm working I only get off next week!" I said quickly.

"They'll give you leave" she sang.

"Payton you don't-" she hung up. Understand. I muttered the last part.

"I am not going. Max isn't just going to let me pack my things and go to a strangers wedding!"

"Please! It's in Italy Iris. Please don't let me go alone!" I begged her.

"Fine only because I love you"

"Pay. Thank you!" I hugged her and she just laughed.

"Let's go order some Chinese? " she asked as I let go. I nodded and plugged my phone into its charger before heading out after her....
