The next few days went by very quickly. I was busy finishing my essay for English class and had to present a project in my Latin class. It didn't help that every day I was nagged by the Prince's of dung, and forced to travel in heavily armed vehicles.
"Maya!" Oliver yelled. I turned around to look at him.
"Spit it out." I snapped. Let's just say I was in a bad mood.
"I was wondering if you wanted to go with me to the park. My BIO teacher assigned me a project, and o have to sit and watch ducks for two hours." He pleaded, and looked at me with puppy eyes.
"What if I'm seen with you?" I asked, not wanting to be bothered by the press.
"I got that covered." Oliver grinned pulling out two ski masks. We were gonna look like bank robbers.... Coooool.
"Fine, but you have to by me ice cream after." I declared, snatching the black ski mask and putting it on. I then proceeded to walk down the street like a gangster.
Oliver pov-
I chuckled to myself as I watched Maya walk like a constipated penguin down the sidewalk. This girl drove me crazy. She always has a way of making me smile, and I really like it. I can't help but tease and play pranks on her, she's just so cute. To be honest, I didn't really need help on my project, and it was only thirty minutes. I just wanted to spend time with Maya.
"Wait up!" I shouted, and ran to join her.
As we neared the park I looked for a good place to sit.
"Here." I said, pointing at a bench, facing a pond full of ducks.
She sat down next to me, her arm brushing mine. That small movement sent shivers down my spine, causing my heart to skip a beat.
We sat for a moment neither of us speaking. It wasn't an awkward silence, just comfortable. I watched as Maya sat swinging her feet. The girl had always scared me to death, but right now she looked really innocent. Even though she had the temper of a pregnant she bear, she also had the mind of a child.
"What?" Maya demanded, looking at me with her eyebrows raised. I quickly looked away a slight blush on my cheeks.
"Nothing..." I insisted, and began to watch the ducks.
"Here," I began, taking some bread out of my backpack. I gave a little to Maya, and kept the rest for my self.
"Throw it to the ducks. This way we will be able to observe their eating and social habits." I explained.
I took a crumb of bread and threw it into the pond. After a few seconds, the ducks saw the food, and began to quack excitedly.
"They look like you during lunch time!" I joked, receiving a smack almost immediately.
"Have you seen yourself eat. You practically inhale your food." Maya shot back, causing me to laugh. Soon she joined in, and we both stood in the middle of the park laughing like lunatics. I'm pretty sure a mother passed by, telling her child something along the lines of "that'll happen to you if you don't do your homework."
Little did we know, that the ducks were getting impatient. While Maya had chucked her entire price of bread in the pond yelling, "Fight for it!" I still had half a loaf of bread squished in my palm.
Before I could react I was attacked by a hoard of ducks, pecking away at my shins like a jack hammer. I screamed throwing my bread in the air and running away. Most of the ducks decided to go off after the food, but I guess one was having a bad day. I ran around the pond at least two times, trying to escape an angry duck.
As I cursed mother nature, Maya stood there laughing her head off. Once I finally lost the rabid duck, I pushed her shoulder.
"Meanie!" I pouted.
"Hey! Don't push me. Your own fault for not feeding the poor ducks." She defended, pushing my shoulder.
"What? You chucked it into the pond yelling fight." I retorted, pushing her again.
This time, I put a little more force into it. My body fell forwarded, and we both crashed towards the ground.
Let's just say my face was as red as a tomato. I was sprawled on top of Maya, and I was pretty sure she felt like she was crushed under the weight of the sky.
I lifted myself off of her, our faces only inches apart. My heart was beating a thousand miles per hour and my cheeks felt like they were on fire.
"Get off you hippo!" Maya wailed, pushing me onto the grass. She jumped up, covering her red cheeks. I did the same, but I was honestly glad that I wasn't the only one blushing.
"Is that Oliver?!?" Someone shouted. I looked up to see s few people making their way towards us.
How is it that I am always recognized at times like this?
"Run!" I yelled grabbing Maya's hand. We both sprinted towards our house, as I threw my hoodie on top of her head.
"I can't see!" She complained. Grabbing at the hood. I cursed, knowing that it would be bad if her picture was taken. Before I could think it through, I threw her over my back, and continued to sprint towards the house.
As I ran, she cursed me in Latin, hitting me on the back. I knew she took Latin, but did they really teach her all that in class? Finally we reached the house and I set her down, massaging my bruised back.
"What was that for?" Maya shouted. She pouted at me, and I couldn't stop myself from blushing.
We were quite close, Maya's back against the brick wall, blocking our house from the media. I stood in front of her, my stomach flipping.
My mind went numb, and I took a step forward. Closer, and closer. Maya looked at me confused, our faces only centimeters apart.
Suddenly I felt someone pull me backwards, and I fell, my but landing on the ground. I couldn't even speak, as Daniel quickly grabbed Maya's hand, taking her away. His face was twisted into a bitter expression as he glared at me, entering the house.
I could hear Maya's protests and Daniels shushing.
My hand touched my lips, as I looked towards the house. If Daniel hadn't come......
Would I have kissed her?
