Chapter 22

I climb into the car and straighten out my midnight blue sparkling dress. It has two layers. The bottom layer is a nice velvet blue and the top layer is a dark blue almost black, see through layer that has sparkles all over it. The sparkle fans out all over the thin fabric turning into beautiful swirls. It lays over the bottom layer letting the blue show through it. The dress goes down to my knees and ties into a bow in the back. Overall one of my favorite dresses of all time. I left my hair down for tonight and put on some black heels with a bow on the ankle part of them. My entire outfit is good for a night like this. A nice way to dress up for a nice dinner. Its also good for fancy dances and things like Homecoming and such.

My parents both climb in and some how I end up in the middle. They argue back and forth with me in the middle wanting to walk to where ever we are going than stay in this car for another second and be in the middle of their argument. Of course I don't say a word or even attempt to get out the car. Also normally I wouldn't worry about it but I would probably mess up my shoes and my dress on the walk. Also I would probably get all sweaty. Therefore my hair would get all my messed up and nasty. Then I would never hear the end of it from my mother. How I'm so embarrassing and careless. Then she wouldn't talk to me until she felt that I had had enough of the silent treatment that she would have been giving me.

We roll up to one of the most expensive restaurants around. Someone comes to the car door to open it and let us out. This is how you know your paying a lot of money at this place. They are opening your car door for you. I think its a bit over priced for the size of the food they give to you too. For example you pay at least fifteen dollars for one plate but all of the food thats on the plate is maybe just barely the size of a snail. Fifteen dollars is also the cheapest price for a meal here. I don't leave this place full. I would have to order at least forty plates just to fill myself up. I always have to go home and snack up in my room, because if I wanted to order enough food to leave with a full belly I would have to ask myself how important it is to have two lungs and would I be able to live with only half of my organs.

My father hands the man the keys to the car and dismisses out driver from his duties while we are at dinner. What he's going to do or where he's going to go I have no clue but he's a smart man I'm sure he'll find something to do. We climb the stairs to the main doors. My dress sways and tickles the back of my legs. Its repeating motions begin to make my skin irritated and itchy. I give a huff of breath as we reach the top and quickly I run my hand over the back of my legs to calm the irritation. Another man opens the door for us and we pile inside. I thank him as I pass by. Inside, the building is dimly lit and small clinks of silverware hitting against plates and wine glasses being brought to one another for a toast. A large crystal chandelier hangs in the middle of the large building allowing the candles that are lit at all of the tables to show off its sparkling glory. We look over everyone and at either side of us is a flight of stairs that curves down to the second floor that we are now over looking.

A thin woman approaches us with a smile of her face, "Hello, do you have a reservation?" While my father speaks with her I notice how nice she looks. Of course she has to look nice and professional for this job but beyond that she cause be a model. He dark brown hair that flows down to the half of her back has been curled. Her blue almost gray eyes are soft and welcoming and compliment her smooth pale skin. She's very thin but has curves in all the right places. To say that she's flawless would be an understatement. She turns the lead us to a table and I notice how good she is with her balance while walking in her simple but cute black heels. I'm surprised I haven't fallen on my face yet while trying to walk in my heels. She leads us down the left flight of stairs and instead of going to one of the tables that have been placed in the center of the room we make another sharp left into a private room. The room is directly under where the entrance is and seems to be half the size that the landing we were on. This must mean that there is another one of these private rooms. The model like woman stays in the door way as wee walk to the large table that is set up in the middle of the room. I narrow my eyes at how big the table is. It's much to big for a family of three. There's no way that its just for us either. There are seven chairs placed around the table so it leads me to believe that we are here to have dinner with one of my fathers business partner's family. I feel its something that is done to keep the deal that they talk about calm and cool. Drama and other problems are something that no business man or woman wants to get stuck in.

We have sat down in ours chairs with me sitting next to my father's left side who is at the end of the table and my mother sits next to him on his right. Its common for my father and who ever he is meeting with to sit at one end of the table. I smooth my dress down over my legs. I quickly unfold my napkin placing my silverware neatly next to my plate and smooth the napkin down on my lap. I look up to see my mother doing the same but making sure that her silverware is completely even with one another. My father has carelessly dropped his napkin onto his lap and simply just places his silverware next to his plate not caring how uneven or even it is. He just sits there with his chin resting on his fist staring across the table at the empty chair that is waiting for someone to sit down.

"They should be here soon sir. You have arrived a bit early but they should be here soon." The model woman says, "Please excuse me." With that she leaves the room and closes the door behind her.

I take this time to let my eyes wonder around the room. Plants line all around the room and a mini chandelier hangs in the middle of the room and over the center of the table. Three candles are placed on the middle of the table. One is directly under the shimmering chandelier, one is a little bit to the left of me and my mother. The other is placed the same way at the other end of the table.

There is a small knock at the door that we just came through and few minutes ago. The model woman walks through again with four people trailing behind her. She moves to the side and lets the family of four pile into the room. I quickly resist the urge to groan as I see who we are having dinner with tonight.

A huge grin spreads over Vince's face and he almost skips over to the chair placed next to me.

Lottie's face seems to darken at the very sight of me. My mother jumps out of her seat to greet Lottie's mother loudly. My father is calm and cool as he pushes the chair back and stands up to greet and shake Lottie's father's hand.

Lottie takes a seat next to my mother and continues to glare at me. Vince has sat down and i non stop blabbering about who knows what. I'm not trying to be rude towards him but I'm not listening to his endless talking. The only thing I can think of is.. "This is going to be a long and interesting dinner."
