Daily Manila: Aldub - The End?
By : Erico Dela Cruz
7 movies and 2 teleseryes later, the once power couple of the nation that dominated the social medias, TV screens, and silver screens are now off doing their own projects!
With our pambansang bae Alden, starting a new teleserye with the new and upcoming FilAm star, Rachel Garcia and our beloved Maine taking a break from all the shooting and going back to where she started, Eat Bulaga; what will become of Aldub?
"Hindi po to end ng Aldub," Alden explained at his press-con for his new Teleserye; Hanggang Ngayon. "Parang break lang po, kasi nga baka ma-umay kayo sa'min ni Maine pag lagi kami together, diba?"
Totoo naman si bae pero parang ang bilis naman ng panahon. It felt like just last year, Aldub was born and pinapakilig tayo during the noon-time segment of Kalyesrye. Parang nakakaiba naman kung may ibang hinahawakan si Alden, NOT TO MENTION sino naman ang ka-dubsmash ni Yaya Dub - that's if they decide to return her character or the segment of Kalyeserye.
But like Maine said in a previous interview with CosmoPh, mutual decision daw ang pag-break ng loveteam to focus on their own interests. She wanted to go back to making people laugh through her comedic ways with JoWaPao, and Alden wanted more challenging roles in dramatic aspect of the industry.
Now the question that everyone wants to know is; WHY?
Tune in next week for our exclusive interview/article with the gorgeous Maine Mendoza.

"You know I love you, right?" He turned to her, as they walked to his car. The two were just getting back from their 'bonding dinner'. Something that they have established the first year their friendship developed.
"I know." She nodded, kicking a rock along the way - not bothering to look at him. She knew that his love was different. It wasn't the one she was hoping to receive back. She had known this since day one.
The love he felt for her was the same love she felt for her brother. A mutual and caring love.
It wasn't the type that made him want to scoop her into his arms and passionately kiss her right then and there. It was the type to give her a playful shove and pinch her cheeks, saying 'My bestfriend is so cute.'
"And you know that I also care about my career...?" He trailed off.
"Mhm..." She continued to walk, not noticing that he had stopped a few steps back. "O, anong ng yari?" She turned back.
"Meng..." He sighed.
"...Den." She swallowed, not liking the tone of his voice.
"Ito lang ba ang gagaw'in natin hanggang mamatay tayo...?"
She quickly hit his chest. "Hoy, don't say that! Kung magsalita ka nakakatakot. Di ko na gusto to."
"I'm serious. Is this what our career has come to? Kilig dito, paiyak dyan... Photoshoot every month... Mall shows..." He listed, chewing on his lip.
"Bakit, pagod ka na?" She whispered, realizing where his topic was heading off to.
"Hi-hindi naman." His heartbeat began to race as he heard her change of tone. No matter how long the two have been friends, whenever she sounded a least bit sad, he began to get nervous. He never wanted to be the one that caused that pain. "Gusto ko lang na, kung pwede sayo, na maybe... Maybe we can do something different."
"As in..." She knew what he meant, she just wanted him to say it himself.
"Different projects--"
"With different people." She interrupted quickly.
He nodded slowly, scanning her eyes to see if any flashes of anger or sadness were to show.
"Okay." She shrugged, turning back to head to the car.
This time was bound to come. She knew it. She knew that she wasn't going to be able to string him along for this long. And she didn't want to fight it. She loved him too much to see him work in projects that kept him in a box. He specialized in drama, making people cry. Not back-to-back kiligan.
At first it was fun for him, but as time went by - one RomCom after another - she saw it. She saw the light that she brought to his eyes, when their tandem was first born, was slowly starting to disappear. And it wasn't until their first and last dramatic teleserye when she saw a tiny glimpse of it again.
So if it meant that they wouldn't spend every waking moment together for that light to come back, then so be it. She was going to let him go for that dream he and his mom wanted.
"Wait!" He was taken by surprise, walking to her. "Ganon lang...? 'Di ka galit?"
She shrugged again. "Bakit naman ako magagalit?"
"I'm basically asking for us to take a break."
"You're asking our loveteam to take a break." She corrected.
"Pero pareho na yun."
"No, because 'us' would mean that there was something between us and there's nothing between us, right?"
"No but--"
"And it's not like you're ending the friendship."
"No."
"Okay then why would I get mad? It was bound to happen. I can't expect us to always be together."
He let out a defeated sigh, knowing there was no winning with her.
And that was it. Aldub was on break.
