Her organs were on a mission to kill her and she knew it. It was a sure thing. As each second went by, she felt as though her stomach practically tie itself in knots whilst trying to turn itself inside out. And no amount of painkillers or heating pads could subside the horrible, horrible situation her body put her in.
One would think she would have gotten used to it by now, considering that this was monthly experience for her. But unlike any other time, this pain seemed more unbearable - unable to even take a single step out of her room.
"I hate my life." Maine groaned, turning over in her bed.
"Anak," Her mom peaked her head into her room. "Kamusta ka na?"
She looked over her shoulder with a frown, her arms still around her stomach. "Ito, parang pinapatay." Maine sighed.
With a sigh, her mom took a seat next to her youngest daughter, brushing her hair back before placing a kiss on her forehead. "Kaya mo pa ba? Pwede tayo'ng pumunta sa hospital, Meng."
Maine shifted her position to lay her head on her mother's lap, taking a hold of one of her hand. "It's a seven out of ten, medjo kaya pa."
"Do you want food? Nagpadala si Justin ng favorite mo and some snacks."
She shook her head, squeezing her mom's hand tighter once she felt a quick pain at her side. "It hurts too much to eat."
The mom of five nodded, going back to running her fingers through Maine's hair. "Nak, napapansin ko yata na parang close na close na kayo ni Justin."
She let out a groan - and not out of pain. "Ma, friends lang kami."
"I didn't say you guys weren't. Napansin ko lang." She chuckled. "Pero, kung may crush ka sa kanya, I approve."
"Ma!" Maine sat up, unable to hold back a smile - the pain that bothered her all morning no longer in mind.
"Parang impossible naman na hindi ka magka-crush sa kanya! He's a gentleman, his looks are just a plus."
Maine couldn't believe that this was actually coming out of her mother's mouth - she was talking to her as though she was some friend she could simply gossip with. Sure her mom and her had many light hearted conversations here and there in the past, but it was never like this.
"Oh my gosh." Maine rolled her eyes playfully. "Please stop."
"It's okay to like someone else, aside from Alden. You're allowed to move on." She looked in to Maine's eyes, her tone turning into a serious one.
"Naka move on na po ako." Her daughter reassured her.
"Sure ka?" She raised her brows.
"Yes, mom." Maine nodded. "I've moved on and I'm happy where I'm at."
Choosing to let the subject go, and giving Maine the benefit of the doubt, Mrs. Mendoza nodded and gave her daughter one last kiss on the forehead before she excused herself out of the room to let her rest some more.
