Just as what he had texted her, Alden was waiting patiently outside of her house, sitting at the hood of his car. And at the sound of her gate opening, he turned his head to meet her eyes - a small smile appearing on his lips.
With her arms crossed and not a single sign of expression written on her face, Maine approached him - stopping as she neared the car, not bothering to sit beside him. "Bakit ka naandito?" She asked, her face remaining the same.
"I want us to fix this." He sighed.
Maine raised her brows at him. "Us?"
Alden nodded, a frown on his lips. "Ayaw ko na ganito tayo."
"At sino naman ang may kasalanan nun?" She asked, shifting her weight from one foot to another.
"Both of us." He shrugged, saying it as if it was the most obvious thing ever.
She couldn't believe what she just heard, narrowing her eyes in to slits. "Both? Last time I checked, ikaw ang nag accuse sa akin."
"Sino ang nag walk out?" He snapped, taking Maine by surprise. He was doing so well with containing his emotions.
He was still as stubborn as the night they had dinner and Maine was in no mood of it.
"Go home. This is going nowhere." She shook her head, about to turn to go back in to her home.
"Maine!" Alden sighed in frustration.
"Ano?" She matched his tone of voice.
"I'm trying to fix things here." He cried, running his hands through his hair. "Ang tigas talaga ng ulo mo."
"At ako pa talaga? Wala ako'ng ginagawa!"
"Exactly, wala nga. Pag ayaw mo na ang naririnig mo, you walk out. You don't do anything about it. You don't fight for anything." He gritted his teeth, his anger getting the best of him.
You don't fight for anything. His voice rang in Maine's ear over and over again. And at that moment, Maine knew that this was never really about fixing what was happening between them. And the dinner was never about them catching up. It was far more beyond that.
It was about the one thing that would slowly destroy their friendship if it wasn't discussed. She knew it was bound to happen. She knew that this day was going to come, but she never truly prepared herself for it.
"Is this still about Justin?" She asked monotonously, masking the anger that she felt towards him. "Kasi parang may pinapaghugutan ka na eh."
"This is just about you walking out on me." Alden rolled his eyes.
Maine shook her haid. "No, this is about you being selfish. Pag ikaw, pwede ka'ng gumawa ng kahit ano'ng gusto mo. Pero, pag ako, dapat idadaan ko pa ang mga plano ko sa'yo. Showbiz or not."
"Hindi yan totoo."
Yes it is. Maine thought to herself, and deep down, Alden knew this too.
"Hindi ba talaga?" She raised her brows. "Kasi, I remember clearly two years ago, I was offered a movie with a different leading man pero pinakusapan mo ako na kung pwede huwag kong tanggapin. Actually nga, ikaw pa ang kumausap sa manager ko para e-decline ang part. Pero, I let it go. But the minute you got an offering for a drama teleserye, kinuha mo agad and asked for our love team to be on break. And once again, I let it happen."
Alden opened his mouth to explain himself but Maine interrupted him. "O akala mo hindi ko alam na tinanggap mo ang Hanggang Ngayon bago pa natin pinagusapan ang pag break natin? Hindi ako tanga Alden, and please don't treat me like I'm just some dumb girl that you can fool."
