I'd sat through the lecture from my principle on how unacceptable it is to hit others and how unimpressed he is that an honour student like myself could do what I'd done. I tried to explain why I'd pushed her, that I hadn't meant to give her a concussion and it was an accident. I think the bruise on my face and my lack of explanation for it made him distrust me though because I landed my butt in detention for three days after school.
Signing into detention was a first for me, the room was empty except for two boys sitting in the second row. The teacher nodded for me to sit without a word, I took a seat in the front row right in front of one of the boys with his head on the desk. As soon as I was at my desk the teacher stood and walked briskly to the door, "Two hours, no bathroom breaks. Enjoy." With that he left and locked the door behind him.
"Jackass." Came from behind me followed by the sound of a chair scraping backwards.
I placed my head on the desk and closed my eyes hoping to fall asleep and get this over with, trying to ignore the soft conversation of the boys behind me.
I was woken up by a soft patting on my back, "Hey, the teacher's about to come back, if he catches you sleeping it's an extra day."
I sat up, "Thanks." Then I got a closer look at his face, "Oh. I know you." He was the guy from that night... the one with black hair that tried to talk to me.
"Huh?" He looked confused.
"Sunday night, you beat up that guy by the pier."
His eyes widened, "Shit. That was you?"
I nodded. "I don't want anything to do with you."
"What?"
"You beat up that poor guy."
He looked irritated and a little shocked, "That guy was going to try to rape you."
I didn't get a chance to answer as the teacher walked in, "Times up, you can go."
I quickly got up and rushed out the room to the girl's bathroom where I could be alone for a few minutes. That crazy guy goes to my school? I can't believe he goes to my high school... he can't be serious, that guy at the pier didn't want to r- nope, don't even think it. I just have to get home and forget all about this.
I have to walk home.
Walking in the door I instantly heard a banging coming from upstairs along with my father's angry yelling, crap, Kennedy's been home alone with him. I ran upstairs to find my dad banging on Ken's locked door.
"Hey!" I yelled getting his attention.
"Where have you been!? I thought you ran away from me too!"
"Mom didn't run away, she divorced you, remember?"
He frowned then something seemed to catch his attention, "Who did that to your eye!? I'll kill them!"
"You did." I sighed.
He frowned and stumbled past me towards his room mumbling something about crazy people and running away.
I knocked softly on Kennedy's door, "Hey, it's me. Open up."
She slowly opened the door and smiled when she saw me, "You're okay! Where've you been?"
"I got detention, sorry. Long story short; I pushed a girl and she fell and hit her head, I didn't mean for it to happen."
"I know you didn't, you would have punched her if she made you mad enough."
I smiled knowing she was joking, "yeah well I have two more days of detention, will you be okay?"
"I'll go to Ally's place to study after school."
"Just be careful."
