Chapter 6
My song. My beautiful song. My mom sang this song to me, this lullaby when my father was drunk. She would cuddle me in her arms and sing softly to me.
Beautiful darling please close your eyes
All through the night the Angels they cry
They weep for your love and hold you close
When the daylight will come your tears with dry.
Hold you close for you are mine
Love you forever till the day I die.
Every night she would hum this tune. When she cooked. When she cleaned. When she brushed my hair. My chest tightened. I softly started singing it. Softly, sweetly. Our beautiful song. I wondered if my mom still sang it or thought of me. When she left, my father needed someone else to fill the space. That someone was me. I lay in bed that night singing just singing over and over. I loved to sing. I sang softly as I got dressed to hang out with Noah. I got an anxious feeling in the pit of my stomach. When the doorbell rang I ran down the stairs and my aunt gave me a look that said, and you said you didn't like him. I rolled my eyes.
"Hey." I smiled.
"Hi." He said.
I climbed into his car. The radio was up and the air was blasting on high.
"So, where are you taking me?" I asked.
He looked over at me. "Do you still not like surprises?" A playful smirk danced on his lips.
"Do you still have to be an ass?" I asked playfully.
He put his his hand to his chest and pretended to be hurt.
"Just tell me where you're taking me."
"I can't." He said.
"And why is that?" I asked playing into his little game.
"It's a surprise."
I laughed and he started pulling into the highway. I lay me head back against the seek and propped my feet up on the dash board. Noah shot me an intrigued glance.
"Can I help you?"
"Nothing." He said looking back to the road. A few seconds later he turned back to me.
"If you don't keep your eyes on the road, you're going to kill us both." I joked going through radio stations. He pulled onto a little dirt road.
"Here we are!" He said getting out of the car.
I opened my door and walked through a little path it opened up into a beautiful sparkling lake, it had a dock connecting to it. We were the only ones here. I turned back to him my mouth hanging open.
"This is ridiculous!" I said walking up on the dock.
He blushed a slight shade of pink. "I made us some lunch." He held up a picnic basket.
"Wow." I said.
"Do you not like it?" He asked.
"No, no I really really do, it's just." I looked out at the lake.
"Just what?"
"Just.... No one has ever done this for me before. It's gorgeous." I shook my head in an unbelieving kind of way.
A smirk formed on his lips. "Really?" He asked.
"Really." I looked into his green eyes.
"Well then, lets eat!" He sat the basket down and layed out a pretty blue blanket on the dock. He pulled out some sandwiches and grapes and crackers and cheese, then finally he pulled out a bottle of wine and two glasses. I raised my eyebrow at him.
