Chapter 7

"Yes! I win again!" I cheered, taking the winning spot in monopoly.

"Dammit." I heard my aunt mutter under her breath. "You know when me and your father were kids this was his favorite game," she said glancing at me before she started gathering the pieces. "And he would win, every time."

I was silent for a moment, thinking of the right response. "I think we need to burn this game." I joked. At least I hoped I sounded like I was joking even though I was dead serious.

My aunt laughed. "Oh honey, you know it's just a game." She said smoothing my hair.

"I'm going to get some lemonade." I said hoping to change the subject. "Want any?"

"Sure dear." She smiled.

I walked into the kitchen and I could breathe easily again. Whenever she would bring up my father it felt like the room was closing in.

"Here you go." I smiled handing her the glass. She smiled.

"I've been meaning to ask you about how your date went with Noah."

"Aunt Liz that was weeks ago." I said taking long sips of my drinks.

"Oh please it wasn't that long ago." She waved the air as if to get rid of a bad smell.

"Liizzz," I whined.

"Oh okay, just tell me.. Did you guys kiss?"

"Okay!" I said getting up. "I am not having this conversation with you!" I said.

"Oh you did!" She squealed like a teenager. "How was it, was it romantic, was it-"

"We didn't kiss." I interrupted her. "And we are never going to." I felt kind of disappointed about it, but I haven't seem Noah since the lake which was about two weeks ago, besides I have a feeling Brandy wasn't just a friend.

"Oh, Veronica it's okay, give him time."

"No Liz I don't want to kiss him!" I said.

She gave me a 'yeah right' look, I was about to respond when my phone rang.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Hey." His sweet voice filled the other end.

"Noah?" My aunts head popped up.

"Yeah, hi." He said.

"Uh, what's up?" I asked.

"Nothin, I was uh just calling because I wanted to know if you wanted to do something tonight."

"Um yeah!" I said.

"Cool, so uh there's this bonfire going on down by the beach tonight, everyone's going to be there so.." He trailed off.

"What do you mean, everyone?" I asked.

"Just everyone from school, you can meet them before it starts up so it won't be so awkward."

I looked over at my aunt and when she noticed the look on my face she gave me an expression I couldn't quite read.

"Um, are you sure I'm welcomed?" I asked.

"Yeah, of course your welcomed!" He said.

"Oh, okay, I guess, sure."

"Really?" He sounded surprised, yet happy.

'"Yeah." I gulped. "Why not."

"Awesome, so I'll pick you up around 7ish."

"Okay." I said.
