"Can you tell me how you are sleeping?" Jemma asked clipping a barrette in Lucy's hair as she stirred the cookie batter.
"Okay." She replied, slowing in her stirring motions a little as she spoke.
"Anymore nightmares?" Jemma asked slowly, going over to spray and cookie sheet.
Lucy shrugged and her wooden spoon started to make a stabbing motion instead of a stirring motion. Jemma put the spray on oil back in the cabinet above the stove, before turning back. Taking the bag of chocolate chips she cut it open with scissors and measured out two cups; dumping each cup into the bowl.
"Your mother tells me you want to go back in your own bed soon." Jemma said, even though she knew that Lucy didn't sleep without her parents there.
"Maybe." Lucy said, clumsily beating the chocolate chips into the batter instead of blending them in.
Jemma quietly spooned out cookie sized balls and put them on the cookie sheet. She watched Lucy continue to focus on the dough, smashing it and stabbing at it with her spoon. Lucy paused in between assaults just long enough to let Jemma pull out enough for the baking sheet before resuming.
"I am very proud of you for wanting to sleep on your own again," Jemma said, dipping her head to make Lucy look at her, "So I made you something."
Her eyes lit up at the idea of a present, and she let go of the spoon to lean forward in the stool over the counter. "You brought me a present?" She asked almost breathlessly.
Jemma's face spread into a genuinely affectionate smile. "You have been very good, it is in a bag next to my purse by the door." Jemma explained nicely.
Practically flying off of the stool she trotted through the house to the front entry way, where her gift was waiting to be opened. Jemma put the first batch of cookies in and set the alarm for 11 minutes. Slowly walking through the house Jemma found her in the living room looking at the quilt with Kendra printed on them.
Jemma had brought an already made quilt and sown fabric prints of Lucy's pictures onto its face. "Do you like it?" Jemma asked.
Lucy's face was filled with utter joy as she spread it to look at another one. "Yes." She exclaimed.
"Kendra can protect you from all the bad things." Jemma said leaning on the entryway frame, watching Lucy admiring her gift.
Standing up she ran over and wrapped her arms around Jemma, hugging her tightly, "Thank you very much, Dr. Turner."
"You're welcome Lucy, why don't you take it upstairs and put it on your bed?" Jemma suggested patting the girl on her head.
"Okay," she said running back to gather up the quilt in her arms, "My mom is going to be so jealous. She loves Kendra, too."
"You will have to show her when you go to bed tonight," Jemma said, "Don't tell her until she tucks you into your own bed."
"I won't it will be our secret!" Lucy giggled dragging half the quilt on the ground as she headed toward the stairs.
"Be careful," Jemma called, heading back for the kitchen, "I still need my assistant."
