Chapter 3 (Re-written)
Ring! Ring! Ring!
I groaned sleepily and rolled over to shut off my alarm. I groggily got out from the cover, made my bed, and dragged my feet to the bathroom. Honestly, I was spooked when I saw my reflection on the mirror. My eyes looked horrific from the lack of sleep I had. The sleep I had was very uncomfortable. It was as if I knew I was asleep, but my mind was as active as Indians dancing around a campfire and now their drums were working on a steady beat against my head.
Damn you, Alex.
I washed up and inside my walk-in closet to get my uniform. It was just a plain white button-up shirt with a red, black, white silk ribbon and a knee-length black skirt, but during cold seasons, we were required to wear the school jacket as part of the uniform. After dressing up, I headed my way to the kitchen and took out a piece of my birthday cake for breakfast.
I had an enormous sweet tooth. For breakfast, it was imperative that it should be sweet. If I had breakfast that wasn't sweet, I would be just sick and tired the entire day.
After breakfast, I grabbed my backpack and headed off to most of every student's nightmare: SCHOOL.
~~~
A couple of blocks away from school, I happened to spot a familiar face. I rushed to the person and gave him a friendly slap on the back. "Hey, Josh!" I greeted.
Josh was one of my good friends. We usually bump into each other every time we both head out to school. He also has three younger brothers who happens to make fun of him all the time. Every time that happens, it always leads to them causing a ruckus, no matter where the venue is.
"Hey, Anna," Josh said. "Happy birthday."
"Thanks," I smiled and ruffled his hair. He slapped my hand away and fixed his "styled" hair. Typical Josh. He has always been a fashionable guy.
When we got to school, this time without Josh's brothers since he had to leave them at the elementary building, it was still half-empty. Josh had to head out for the photography club room, so I just sat on a bench under a tree. Our principal has this thing with plants. Since he says it's good for the environment and our health, he placed them almost everywhere in the school campus.
Time passed that I could see the hallways fill up with more students from the windows. I waved when a few of my friends arrived. Katia, Valerie, Belle, Danielle Sara, and Drake made their way to me and greeted me with their happy birthdays.
"So, are you gonna treat us to somewhere nice?" Katia asked.
I laughed, knowing Katia would ask that first thing she saw me. Katia had Asian descent which was why she had almond-shaped eyes with porcelain skin. She looked like a Chinese doll, except for a splatter of freckles across her nose. She also had a very skinny build, which confused us most of the time since she eats a meal good for at least two people... or more.
"Nope," I shook my head, much to her disappointment. "My allowance is not due 'til next week. That's why I told you to come last night at my place."
"Last night was a Sunday night," Sara reasoned. "None of us could've gone to your party. My parents didn't allow it."
"That's not what Drake told me when you sneaked out for a date with him last night," I snickered, making Sara blush. She glared at Drake accusingly to which he ignored by staring at leaves on the ground.
Drake and Sara were the typical "once-childhood-friends-and-now-lovers" kind of couple. It was really weird and awkward when they suddenly announced to the group one day that they were dating. Nonetheless, they make a good couple, even though they have their differences. Drake's parents are very open to dating while being a student, while Sara's parents say that she shouldn't date until she graduates from college and have a stable job, which is why she dates Drake in secret.
