Chapter 23

~

It was a light peck then Alex pulled away, but he kept our foreheads together. Then his cold nose rubbed against mine. He looked straight into my eyes, searching for any form of rejection, and when he didn't find any, he went in for another kiss.

I felt my heart stop. I didn't know what to do, except grab onto his shoulders because I felt like my knees were not functioning at the moment. I felt Alex smirk against my lips as he tightened his hold on my waist, and I kissed him back.

And the fireworks?

There were fireworks. However, I don't know if it was from the kiss or the actual fireworks. I really hoped it was the latter, because even though how kissing someone was sort of amazing, I was still scared. I may trust Alex, but I'm still scared over the fact that I still actually like Alex. And I've already gone through that not-very-nice road.

"MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

Alex and I abruptly pulled away and caught sight of two guys on a bicycle. The one who was riding on the back held a large sparkler and yelled "Merry Christmas" to whoever they passed.

I turned back to Alex and saw him seated back on the swing while looking at me. I placed my hands on my hips. "What?" I asked, my eyebrow raised.

"What?"

I shook my head and sighed. "Nothing," I said. I sat down back on the swing. "Nothing at all," I breathed.

"You're surprisingly cool about this," Alex said after a moment of silence. Then he let out a hearty laugh. "I actually thought you were going to kick me in the balls."

"Seriously?" I laughed along with him. "I'd actually do more than kick your balls if you kissed me before today."

"So what made today such a difference?" Alex smirked, leaning towards me.

I smiled and patted his cheek. "You bought me the right steamed bun," I said then got off and began making my way home.

"Just admit it! You like me!" Alex sang for the nth time.

We were both in the elevator on the way to the floor of my flat since he insisted that he'd walk me to my door. Such chivalry...

"I don't know what you're talking about," I rolled my eyes, trying not to laugh. I looked at Alex from the corner of my eye and saw him giving me a look that might be his attempt of being a silly, love-struck person. "You're delusional," I said, "and probably drunk. You're acting like that time you got drunk." I let out a soft laugh at the memory.

"Mhm," Alex hummed. "Might I remind you who came up on me, trying to sneak a kiss?"

I blushed, just as the elevator dinged. I got out and walked in the hallway on the way to my door with Alex trailing behind me. "Oh, for goodness' sakes," I cried out, turning to face him. "I'm at my door already. Good night. Bye!" I glared at him with a look that screamed 'Leave'.

Alex just grinned and did that oblivious head-tilt that made me so annoyed.

"What?" I huffed.

"Good night!" Alex smiled cheekily at me, and just as he said those words, he swooped down and lightly pecked my lips. Before I could react, he dashed away to the elevator that just opened for Old German lady to make her way down the same hallway where Alex and I were. And I'm pretty sure that she saw what happened before Alex almost bumped into her on his way to the elevator.

Trying to avoid her disapproving gaze, I gave her a light, brief Christmas greeting before rushing to get inside my flat.
