After being back for a week, Brielle had settled back into her typical lifestyle.
Go to school, get teased, eat a late lunch with Ella, go home, and wait for Quinn to call.
Pretty straight forward and it almost went like clockwork. However, the one thing Brielle had been neglecting to do was going to see Jarred. You might had thought that would've been first on her list but Brielle really didn't want to go to the jail. She didn't want another reminder of what had happened.
So, she put it off. But Brielle knew Jarred would be offended and slightly hurt if she didn't stop in at some point so one week after she got back, Brielle went to see him.
The walk there was cold. It was late November in Albemarle and it was chilly. The average temperature was about 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Brielle had neglected to grab a jacket so it made it worse.
Brielle wrapped her arms around her and thanked God she had decided to wear a sweater and a scarf. The walk took about half an hour. By time Brielle turned the corner and could see the jail, her nose was bright red.
Rudolph would've been proud.
Brielle pushed open the door and was met by a bored looking women. Her name tag read 'Maeve.'
"Can I help ya?" She asked, smacking on her gum. Maeve didn't take her eyes off her paperwork.
"Yes ma'am. I'm here to visit my cousin." Brielle said.
Maeve looked up. Her eyes widen as recognition set in. She knew who Brielle was. Everyone did.
Word travels fast in a small town.
"Jarred Young, right?" Maeve asked.
"Yes ma'am." Brielle said.
"Alright. Go on down that hall. The visitation room is the very last room on the right."
Brielle nodded and followed the directions. She opened the door to the room and sighed. She was separated from Jarred by a piece of glass. They'd have to talk through a phone and Brielle knew people would be watching them.
Really, all she wanted was to hug him and cry.
Sadly, that wasn't an option.
Brielle sat down in the chair on her side and waited. Several minutes passed before the door to the other side opened. In walked Jarred and a police officer. The officer said something to Jarred before walking out.
Jarred smiled at Brielle. He had missed seeing the purple-haired girl.
"Brie, what brings you to a place like this?" Jarred asked into the phone.
"I wanted to talk to you." Brielle said.
"Mmhm, I see. So tell me about Ireland. And tell me more about Quinn."
"Ireland is beautiful. The people there are absolutely wonderful. Quinn is- Quinn is something special." Brielle said.
Jarred smiled. "Would I approve?" He asked.
"Of course. You two would get along very well." Brielle said, believing every word she said.
"As long as he treats you right, I'm happy."
"And to think, you didn't like me at first." Brielle teased.
"I was certain you'd get us killed." Jarred said, not thinking about his words.
Brielle's grip on the phone tightened and her smile dropped. "Jarred." She whispered.
His eyes widened in realization. "Brie, Brie, I didn't mean it like that. I meant I thought during training you'd be so awful you would've messed up and hit someone." Jarred said.
"You need a bigger shovel to dig you out of the massive hole you're in." Brielle said.
"I'm sorry."
Brielle tried to smile. "I know, it's ok."
"But, speaking of all of this, did you manage to go back by the group room?" Jarred asked.
Brielle nodded. "My things were there." She said. Jarred smirked, knowing she meant her knives were there. They were being listened in on and he knew it.
"Did you manage to grab Brett's jacket?"
Brielle nodded. "I wanted something of his to keep for myself." She said, blushing.
"Good. There's a letter inside of it for you."
"I know, I've read it already. It was really sweet."
Jarred smiled. "Just making sure."
Suddenly, the door on Jarred's side opened. The officer who had ushered him in stepped back in. "Time's up!" He yelled loudly. Brielle was able to hear it through the glass.
Jarred looked at Brielle. "Stay strong, don't take crap from anybody, and remember I love you and so does Brett."
Brielle smiled. "I love you too." She said.
The officer took the phone from Jarred and grabbed his arms. Brielle took this as her cue to leave.
She stepped out of the visitation room and went back down the hall towards where Maeve was sitting.
"Is it true?" Maeve asked as she saw Brielle come into view. Brielle shrugged.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Brielle said before walking out of the jail.
