Everyone had finished eating and Sam went out with his friend Andy Gallagher. Cas and Dean were left to clean up everything.
"That was really good," Dean repeated. Cas smiled, adjusting his glasses.
"Well, you did a really good job."
Dean smiled back and Cas and put the plates in the sink.
"Let's go out," Dean blurted out randomly. Cas paused. "There's a nice field where we could go. No one's around so maybe we could bring some drinks."
Cas thought for a moment. An open field, at night, with drinks? That sounded vaguely like a date, so Cas wanted to agree. But Cas was worried that his family would get scared that he wasn't home. He did say he was going to be out, so maybe they wouldn't mind. "Sure," Cas finally answered. Dean smiled and grabbed a bag. He put a couple of beer bottles and a blanket in the bag and grabbed his jacket.
"Let's go," Dean said before going outside to the car. Cas trailed behind, grabbing his jacket and shutting the door behind him.
The car ride was silent, just like the ride earlier. They pulled up in an empty lot by an empty field.
Dean parked and left the car with the bag, calling Cas to follow him. He laid the blanket out on the floor and sat down. Dean patted the seat next to him so Cas would sit. Cas sat down, and then Dean laid back onto the blanket. Cas did the same, and the two stared at the stars.
"Have a beer," Dean offered. Cas wanted to say no, but he wanted to fit in with Dean. So he grabbed the bottle from the bag and opened it. When he took a sip, his nose scrunched. It was an unfamiliar taste and he didn't exactly like it. But when he took another sip, he seemed to have adjusted. It tasted better than before. Dean smiled as Cas took one long sip and then he opened his own beer.
After a few minutes of beer drinking and star gazing, they lied down onto the blanket.
"Cas, I really like this," Dean admitted. Cas felt weird, so he assumed he was drunk. He flipped over to one side so he could face Dean and Dean did the same.
"I like this too," Cas responded. Dean looked drunk.
"I really like you Cas," Dean whispered.
"I like you too," Cas replied. Dean smiled. He scooted closer to Cas and wrapped his arms around him.
"Let's cuddle," Dean whispered into Cas's shoulder. Cas nodded and flipped to his other side, so his back would be facing Dean. Dean's arms draped over Cas and Dean kept him warm.
Dean and Cas stayed together for around two hours, because the two had fallen asleep.
Cas woke up when he heard a car honking. He opened his eyes to see nothing but the open field and he could still feel Dean wrapped around him. It was a pleasant feeling, one that Cas wanted to get used to. He gently shook Dean.
"Dean, I have to go home," Cas whispered.
"Cas, don't leave me," Dean begged. "Don't ever leave me."
Cas looked over at Dean to see that he was still asleep. "Dean, wake up."
Dean woke up and rubbed his eyes, causing Cas to shiver at the loss of Dean's arm over him.
"Did we fall asleep," Dean grumbled, his voice laced with sleep. Cas nodded. "What time is it?"
Cas looked down at Dean's watch. "11 pm."
"We better get going," Dean said sitting up and stretching. Cas agreed and did the same. They cleaned up all of their empty bottles and put them back into the bag. Cas folded the blanket the had slept on and held it under his arm. They walked back to the Impala, which was patiently waiting for them in the lot.
"I don't want to go home," Cas muttered under his breath. Dean stopped walking.
"Let's stay for a while longer. The stars are beautiful," Dean suggested. Cas sighed. "Cmon, Cas. We could sit near the car."
"Okay," Cas caved in. He had to go home, they had school the next morning. But Cas wanted to stay here, with Dean. He felt like he belonged there.
Dean ushered Cas over to the spot of grass in front of the car. They lied down, looking up at the stars.
Cas turned his head to look over at Dean, who was staring up. He smiled and looked back up at the sky.
Cas could feel something on his hand and went to shoo it away, but stopped when he realised what it was. He looked over at Dean, who was staring at him. Cas smiled and so did Dean.
The two stayed lying in the grass, looking up at the sky, the bag now spilling the bottles down the hill, while their hands were interlocked in the space between them.
Cas felt butterflies in his stomach and he hoped that Dean did too. They were holding hands. Cas couldn't believe it. He was actually holding Dean's hand. It wasn't like when he was guiding Dean's hands earlier, because that was to help him. No, Dean had just decided to hold onto Cas's hand. This day was perfect in Cas's mind. Even though it started off with a detention, it was still amazing. The detention was even amazing. Without it, Cas and Dean would have probably never became close.
Cas wondered how this happened. One day he was the outcast, this person no one wanted to be friends with. Then the next he is teaching Dean Winchester how to cook, falling asleep with him in a field, and then holding his hand while staring up at the stars. Cas felt complete. This was enough for him. Just sitting there, alone with Dean. He never wanted to leave.
"I love you," Cas thought he heard Dean whisper. Cas froze. He looked over at Dean to see that he was asleep again. Maybe he had just imagined Dean said that.
But what if he didn't? What if Dean loved him? That would be insane. They had only really known each other for less than a day. Cas knew that if they spent more time together, he would fall in love with Dean. He just hoped Dean would feel the same way.
