11) One Direction. I think I could go on and on about this group of guys, and not particularly in a good way. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them. I like a few of their songs, but I'm not really what you'd call a 'fan'. Especially since I'm starting to see them everywhere! Especially on wattpad.
The fan-fiction genre is just FILLED with them. Honestly, it's so hard to find anything in the fan fiction genre that ISN'T One Direction. In fact, it's almost impossible to find stories that aren't one direction in all genres! I go into the vampire club and I see a 1D story for god sake. One direction vampires. Lord help us!
I personally think that they should just keep the one direction stories in the fan-fiction genre. Yes, the authors of these stories have the right to tag it in other genre's, but I believe that you already have enough of a fan base to just keep it in the fan fiction category. If you do, the group is SOOO incredibly popular right now that you would still get thousands, or even millions of reads. Putting them in other genre's just leaves less room for those stories that aren't one direction in their genre categories.
Not to mention the swarm of one direction themed discussions in almost every single club. However, I'll leave that for another time, I for one, am sick of writing about 1D.
12) Why do people feel the need to post links to their stories in a comment that they leave on YOUR story. Honestly guys, it's not attractive, and it doesn't make us want to read your story more just because you left a link to it on our story. It actually annoys us and makes us want to scream in your face. It's incredibly rude. Why would we want to read your story when you were rude enough to post a link to your story on ours? There are various clubs for you to post advertisements for your story. Explore watt pad and discover them!
13) Yes, these days teenagers get away with a lot. But there's no way in hell that I would be able to do whatever the hell I wanted when I was fifteen. I read a story on here once where a mother let her thirteen year old daughter fly to London from America with her also thirteen year old friend. ALONE. All for a concert. Let me tell you now that if I had asked my mum if I could go to a concert in another country when I was thirteen she'd have looked at me like I was crazy and laughed her head off thinking I was joking. Honestly guys, there's only so much a parent will allow their child to do. Try being realistic.
14) I don't know about you guys, but my mum is always home, looking after me and my siblings. She never just leaves us on our own for weeks or months at a time to go on holidays or for work. Yes, some parents have to travel for work, but wouldn't they have you stay with an aunt or uncle, grandparent or even a really close friend? And surely they would be home every once in a while! Your characters parents don't always need to be 'away' for the character to have fun and have parties or whatever. Heck, my mum HELPS me host parties, and is there to make sure that everyone stays safe.
15) Teen pregnancy. Don't glamorise it any more than MTV already are. Teen pregnancy isn't a good thing. How can a teenager look after a baby when they're still trying to grow into themselves and figure out who they are? There are so many teen pregnancy stories on watt pad, and yes, I know that in real life, it unfortunately happens a lot, but the stories I've read are sooo far from the truth that sometimes it makes me laugh.
I'll start with the boyfriend/baby daddy. Not every guy stays with their pregnant girlfriend! Yes, there are some amazing guys who step up to the plate and do their job, acting like a proper father and support system for the mother, but most of the time he will either ditch, or stay until the baby is born, then leave when it gets a little hard. The mothers don't always stay either. Sometimes the fathers are the ones who accept all responsibility and look after their child. They're not all going to be extremely happy and be there for each other at all times, and it won't all be smooth sailing. There will be arguments, stress, money issues, job issues, living arrangement issues etc.
The parents. I know that if I came home at sixteen and told my mum that I was pregnant, she'd have slapped me upside the head and given me the lecture created by the devil himself. She'd have been so mad and disappointed in me, but she would have been incredibly worried for me. After a while, she would have calmed down a little and spoken to me about it, helped me figure it out, then she'd eventually allow herself to become excited about being a grandparent. In stories on this website, the parents automatically accept it and scream out in excitement that they're going to go shopping and buy so many baby clothes that the baby probably won't even get the chance to wear them all.
Teen pregnancy used to be "Oh my god. I'm pregnant. How am I gonna finish school? How am I going to be able to afford formula for the baby to eat?" Now it's "Oh my god! I'm pregnant. Now I can audition for 16 and pregnant on tv!"
