Chapter 17: you’re welcome in Spanish bozo

“Never ignore a gut feeling, but never believe that it’s enough” –Robert Heller

You know that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach, when something just doesn’t seem kosher, or something is about to go horribly wrong? Well that is the feeling I currently have as we speak.

“So the plan is to have Grace here, wearing a wire so that way we can hear everything that is going on. We will have 2 vans, one will be so we can monitor everything that goes on, and the other one will be with the guys so we can move in once we are needed.” Dad said pointing over his shoulder at the projector screen; which is currently displaying a map of the area where I have to meet this person at.

“I still don’t like this idea” Caydon mutters from besides me, holding my hand in a vice grip.

“I don’t either, but we have to do this.” I whisper back squeezing his hand trying not to show him that I’m actually scared myself.

“Any questions” dad said brining my attention back to what is currently going on around us.

“No sir” the group of around 25 says while nodding their heads.

“It’s nice to have ya’ back for a while, sir” One of the guys, I recognize to be as Knuckles, he is one the guards.

“It’s nice to be back, yes I must agree.” Dad replies with a smile.

“For the wire that she has wear, I have a hairband that doubles as a bracelet, that would let us hear everything that is going on.” Val says holding up a purple hair band.

“That’s a wire? I would pick that up and actually wear it as a hair band.” I say trying not to laugh.

Dad laughs, and Val has a big grin on his face “I know, that is the whole point of it, I am the one who actually came up with the design for it.”

“You designed that?” I ask my eyes almost bulging out of my head.

“Yes, like 2 years ago and I finally got the final product.” He says as dad nods his head.

“That’s awesome, totes to you. I would have never guessed it was a wire.” I say giving him a thumbs up.

“thank you.”

“de nada” I reply as I hear a laugh come from besides me, I turn to look at Cam who is setting on my other side, laughing his butt off.

“Cameron, is there something funny?” dad asks looking at him with a raised eyebrow.

“grace……said……a……bad…..word……” he manages to choke out.

I furrow my eyebrows together in confusion “de nada means you’re welcome in Spanish bozo, what Spanish are you speaking?”

He takes a deep breath, calming himself down “well I sounded like something else that’s all.”

I just roll my eyes “you’re and idiot.”

“Okay so back on track here, Grace will be wearing the wire, and we will monitor everything that is going on from 2-3 blocks, that way they can’t detect us as quickly.” Dad says getting right back into business mode.

“okay, so tomorrow we will send some guys over to scope out the place and in 9 days we will be meeting this person. Any questions?”

We all shake our heads.

“Good, you are all dismissed. Let me know of your findings tomorrow.” Dad says standing up and turning off the projector.

“Hey grace, can you stay here for a second.” Dad says as I pack up my stuff.

“Sure, everything okay?” I ask as I set my bag onto the table.

“Yeah, I just want to tell you something that’s all. Caydon you can go” he says with a laugh looking over my shoulder where Caydon has stopped half way in the door.

“Fine, I’ll be in the kitchen finding some food” he mutters walking out, closing the door behind him.

“How conformable are you with meeting this guy?” dad asks leaning back in his chair.

Taking a deep breath “truthfully, I am actually more scared for the fact that he knows my friends, than my safety.” I mutter also leaning back into my chair.

“That is understandable. We are doing everything in our power to make sure that nothing bad will happen to you, nor them okay?”

“Yeah, thank you.”

“You’re welcome, your father would be proud of you.” He says standing up and pulling me into a hug.

I hug him back “thank you for everything really. If it wasn’t for you I would probably be in some foster home.”

“He’d do the same thing. You better go and make sure that Caydon hasn’t eaten the fridge down by now” he says laughing and shooing me out the door.

“Ain’t that the truth” I say laughing and grabbing my bag, throwing it over my shoulder.
