Chapter 18: Do I knock and risk the house falling down, or holler

“From the moment I picked your book up until I laid it down, I convulsed with laughter. Someday I intend on reading it.”  -Groucho Marx

“Okay so here’s the plan, we have two vans. One is 2 blocks away, and has our backup in it, and the surveillance one is 4 blocks away. If he senses that were here, play it off. Don’t let him know that you know. This is the only time you’ll ever hear me to tell you to lie, Grace.” Dad said going over the last few things before I go meet this unknown guy.

I just shake my head with a small smile. I am currently decked out in my light blue diesel boyfriend jeans with the holes in the legs, my horse shoe belt, bright blue razor back tee shirt that is longer in the back than the front, and my steel toed, light brown cowgirl boots; which I just so happen to have a pair of throwing stars hidden in along with a small derringer. This is all conveniently hidden and concealed by my pants and boots.

“Grace, this here is the wire, and the ear piece so we can contact you.” Val said handing me what looks to be like one of my hair bands, but is actually a wire. I still cannot believe that it is even a wire. He also hands me a really small round, ear bud looking thingy-mabob, which I put into my ear.

“Thanks” I say putting on the hair band on my right wrist, along with my horse hair bracelet that I had gotten from the Outer Banks a few years ago.

“You ready Freddie?” dad asked as Caydon and Cam came into the living room, where we are all currently setting at.

“I was born ready” I said trying to lighten up the mood. It earned me a small laugh from some, but you can tell it’s weighing everyone down.

“Okay then, let’s load up. Grace you drive there, and we’ll be hot on your heels.” Dad said standing up and giving me a hug.

Caydon came over, and wrapped his arms around me, placing a kiss onto the top of my head. “I love you so much, please be careful.” He muttered against the top of my head.

“I will, don’t give yourself stomach ulcers.” I said burying my face into his chest.

“I don’t care, just be safe.” He said as I was pulled from his embrace, my head hitting off of a hard chest. I looked up to see the culprit, Cameron.

“Dude hands off my girl”

“Be safe cupcake” he said giving me a quick hug, before heading out the door behind dad.

As I parked my car on the side of the road next to the place where I’m supposed to meet this person at, I look out the window to see an old run down house. You know, like the ones that you see in a scary movie? Well this one is probably about 3 times creepier and scarier. It’s a two story house, the paint is all chipped away, the porch roof is sagging, two out of 5 steps are broken, broken shutters and windows, also the grass is about knee high. With the sun no longer out, it makes it look like a scene from out of the movie Lighthouse.

I flipped down my visor to reveal the little mirror. I checked to make sure you couldn’t see the little ear piece, I also checked the hair tie wire and made sure that my horse hair bracelet was fastened as well. I flipped the visor back up and checked my boots to make sure that nothing was noticeable. Once I was done, I got out of my car and clicked the lock button. The beeping noise let me know that it’s locked.

As I walked around the front of my car, a black cat ran out from the tall grass spooking me. How ironic, the black cat.

“Grace can you hear me” a voice says into my ear piece.
