My eyes are wide open and my jaw is dropped as a familiar face walks out of the supposedly locked vault. He is holding is head like it hurts. It probably does considering that he is bleeding. "Caleb? Harvey? What is going on?"
Neither the of us speak. "Derek," I manage to utter. "You're... alive."
"Uh... Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?"
"Derek," Caleb begins to ask. "Do you know what's going on?"
"As far as I know, I brought Courtney into the vault to "talk", and I was knocked unconscious. Where is Courtney, by the way?"
"Derek, there is a psycho running around the school killing people," I reply.
"What," Derek nearly exclaims. "Where's Courtney?" He runs toward the door. "I have to find her."
Caleb and I block Derek from leaving. "Derek, you can't leave."
"But I need to find her."
"Derek, I assure you, she is safe. I lead Bryan, Bridget, and Courtney to safety. Do you still have your phone?"
"Yes." he pulls it out and looks at the screen. He looks incredibly disappointed. "But there's no..."
"Don't finish that sentence. I don't want to go threw with a promise I made a few minutes ago." I take his phone and peer my head threw the broken window. There is no one in the halls, so I throw Derek's phones as hard as I can, as far as I can.
"Hey, why did you do that," Derek asks outraged.
"The killer is tracking us by the trackers in our phones. If we throw them away, he won't track us."
"Why didn't you just put the phone in airplane mode," Derek asks.
"What," I reply with a question.
"If you put a device in airplane mode, it turns off the WiFi, the ability to make calls, and keeps others from tracking you through your device."
"I wish I knew that," I admit. I look over at the vault. It is completely open. A thought crawls through my mind. I walk over to the open door and Derek and Caleb follow.
"What are you doing," Caleb asks.
"Earlier when I was hiding in here, I thought this door was closed."
"Yeah? So?," Derek asks.
"The killer appeared right behind us. What if this is how he entered the room? What if there is a secret passage in here?"
"What if there is, what then?"
"We go through it then." All three of us enter the vault. Something is kicked around the floor and stops in front of my feet. I pick it up and realize that it is a small shotgun shell. "What is this doing in here?"
"Maybe that's what was holding the door open," Derek suggests. "I heard it drop when I opened the door to get out of here."
"Maybe," I accept the hypothesis. "But why use a shotgun shell?" I begin to think about why someone would use a shotgun shell of all things to keep a door that can lock slightly ajar. "Start looking around for a door or a hatch.
Derek and Caleb begin to search threw the shelves while I search the floor. I move boxes off the food to reveal what is under, but there is nothing.
"What's this," Derek asks himself.
Several seconds of silence pass as he still stares at what he has found. "Well? What did you find?"
"A light switch."
"What's weird about that," Caleb asks.
I breathe in deeply of agony for the ignorance Caleb shows. "What's weird is that there is on light and the light switch is already on," Derek points out as he points to the light switch."
"Well, turn it on and see what it does," I suggest. Derek switches it on. The set of four tiles I am standing on shake and begin to descend. "Woah!" I am lowered down into a dark hallway. When the tiles hit the floor, a string of lights turn on. "Guys, you need to see this."
In less than a minute, the two climb into the secret corridor. "Woah," Derek exclaims.
"So, what now?"
"We go on."
The three of us walk cautiously down the newly discovered hallway. We look down the halls of each intersection we come across. Luckily, we are the only ones in the corridors.
We come across a turn and stop immediately in horror. Terry is on the ground with his eyes closed and blood stained around his neck. As of now, three people have been killed tonight.
