Library Stowaways

I hide in the library a few corridors away from the theater. I don't hear wood snapping, so the killer hasn't set himself free yet. I lock both doors and hide behind a case of books. I hear footsteps walking in my direction. I stand up slowly and back away. I walk around a bookcase as a figure walks into the aisle I was hiding in. I bump into to someone and screamed.

I was filled with relief when I realized it was Carry. "What happened," a voice says from in between the bookcases. Meredith steps out.

"Thank, God. It's only you two."

"When did you get in here," Carry asks.

"Just now," I replied. "And don't worry, I locked the doors."

"Do you know where Courtney is," Meredith asks with the combination of concern and fear in her eyes. "Is she alright? Is Derek alright?"

"Courtney's fine," I respond. "So is Bryan and Bridget." I pause after that. "But I'm not so sure about Derek."

Carry and Meredith both look down.

"Do either of you have your phones," I ask.

"No," Carry says. "I left mine on the table by the entrance."

"I have mine," Meredith says and pulls out her phone. "But why do you need it? I can't make a call, and without WiFi, I can't send an e-mail."

"That's not what I need it for. He is tracking everyone by phone."

"What are you going to do with it," Carry asks.

"I am going to take this with me, and lead him away from you. Turning it off can turn the GPS off of the phone, but whoever this guy is may be smart enough to get around that detour. He was smart enough to block the cell and WiFi signals."

"How do you know that he did this," Meredith asks. "It could just be a coincidence."

"That's true," I say. "But it is not raining out. There isn't any other storm that can block the signals. And both the cell and WiFi signals going out at the same time when we need them the most is too much of a coincidence." I open the door ad walk out. "Lock the door," I tell Carry.

I begin to walk down the hall when I hear a click. Now I know I can't go back.
