We awoke the next day to screaming and gunshots. Our compound was secure, but those around us were not. I decided to take Jeremy out with me on a run, leaving Zach to defend our small basecamp. Jeremy and I left at what looked like noon, as none of us had any way of telling time, and began to search the nearby area for the source of the sounds. We entered a small house, single story, and began our search. In the living room was a couple who killed themselves together, making sure they didn't come back. The rest of the rooms were empty, it had one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen, and the living room. We were heading out the door when we heard the gunshots and screaming again, closer this time than before, so we started running towards the sound.

About 5 minutes, 3 zombies, and a few screams later, we found a two story house with a few dead zombies in the front yard. Cautiously, we moved the bodies to confirm that they were going to stay dead. We opened the front door, and saw a girl, about 5', 14 years old, sitting in a corner with a pistol, crying, aiming at us. "Don't shoot! We're alive!" I called to her. We began to approach her when a loud gunshot rang and Jeremy fell to the ground. But not from the girl, from behind. I turned quickly to see a sniper on a rooftop "protecting" the girl. "What have you done?!?!?!?" I screamed out the door at the sniper. Then I heard another gunshot and saw something behind me fall.

The sniper had just saved my life. Jeremy had apparently been bitten and not told anyone about it, and the sniper must've seen the bite mark on him and shot him when he tried to attack me. I quickly spun around to check on the girl, to find that she was now standing, and right next to me. "Hi, I'm David" I said to her. "I'm here to help you and your friend. We have a compound set up in a building not far from here. It's safe. Both of you can come with me, we might be able to make it before it gets too dark." "Are you even listening to-" She started clinging to me for dear life. "Thank you so much... I was so scared, I thought that you were both zombies and I... I... I just didn't know what to do..."

"It's OK, now, can you tell me your name?" I replied, slowly setting her back on the ground. "I'm Adalynn. My brother up on the roof's is Aiden" Suddenly we heard a scream, and realized that we were being surrounded by zombies. "Aiden!" Adalynn yelled. "It's too late for him, we need to go" She began crying, so I grabbed her hand and pulled her along with me. We were running down the road when we saw an older gentleman trying to get into his car. "Hey, kids, I've been bitten... Instead of me losing this car, why don't you take it? You could probably use it more than I could... I'm going to die soon anyways." "Thank you sir! We're being chased right now by those creatures. Good luck." "To you too, kids." We saw the old man being ripped to pieces by the horde of zombies now behind us while we drove back to the compound.
