Gwen and Alex stood dumbfounded, staring at the wall. "How...how did you..." Alex stuttered.

"I'll explain later. Right now we need to bloody go!" He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box of matched.

"Newt, how did you plan this?" Gwen asked, staring at the box in his hand.

Newt looked around the room looking for paper or anything flammable. "I promise I'll explain everything when we're safe. Find anything that will burn and put it in a pile against that wall." he said, pointing to the wall farthest from them. They looked around in every drawer and at every computer for any paper They could find. After a few minutes they had a nice pile of papers that looked large enough to burn.

Alex looked skeptical. "This place won't burn. Besides that paper, there's hardly anything flammable.

"It's not for that. It's to cause as much chaos as possible. A place like this has to have alarms for a fire right?" he said, grinning.

A smile slowly crept onto Alex's face. "We can make it. We can get out." she said, more to herself than anyone else. But her smile slowly began to fade again and tears formed in her eyes. Newt knew she was thinking of Dylan.

"Alex listen to me." He said softly. "I've lost enough of my friends to know how you feel. You want to curl up on the floor and give up. Just say shuck it all and never move again. But they wouldn't want that. They would want you to keep going. To make sure they didn't die for nothing." Silent tears streamed down her face. He took her hand. "You knew him best. What would he tell you?"

Alex took in a shaky breath. "He would want me to leave."

Newt nodded. "Exactly. That's why you both need to listen to me very carefully. You both need to go through that Flat Trans right now." Alex opened her mouth to protest but he stopped her. "This place is going to blow up behind me and I need to make sure you both are safe. As soon as I light that fire I'll be right behind you."

Alex's eyes filled with worry. Her grip tightened on his hand. "Promise me you'll get through that Flat Trans." she said. "Please."

Newt nodded. She seemed to relax a bit. "Okay, let's do this."

He watched them both disappear through the gray wall and turned to light the fire. He got a decent fire going pretty quickly. As he expected, more alarms went off to alert them of fire. Perfect. He turned to the computer he had been typing at when he activated the Flat Trans. All that was left was to type the password and hit enter. As his fingers glided across the keyboard the words appeared. WICKED is good. He rolled his eyes. This was the last time he would ever have to see or hear those words. How ironic that they would be the death of them. He had just hit enter when we was hit hard from behind.

He fell to the floor. Before he could recover, Jude was on top of him, pinning him down. Her fingers closed around his throat.

"If this program dies, you die with it." she snarled. He struggled to breathe, to break her iron grip on him, to do anything, but his vision had already begun to go dark.

He could feel the last seconds of his life ticking away as the bomb counted down. Seven...he couldn't breathe, six...at least Alex was safe, five...at least they could make it. Suddenly, Jude jerked away from him. He was yanked to his feet. It was Alex. She was pulling him away. Away from WICKED, away to freedom. His internal clock was still working. Two...they could make it, one...heat seared across his back replaced quickly by icy cold.
