I nervously stood outside the building, tugging at my sweater dress and shifting in my oxford shoes. Just go in, I told myself. Go.
I can't, I replied.
Get it over with. What's the worst that could happen?
"It's a pull door, by the way."
I jumped. Jimmy laughed at my response and stepped forward to swing it open. "After you, m'lady," he said in a deep voice. I chuckled.
"Thank you, my good man," I said, ducking inside. He followed.
"Nervous?"
"More than you can imagine," I replied, biting my lip. He pushed the elevator button.
"You're gonna do just fine," he said, "I promise!"
"I hope you're right."
We stepped into the elevator. The doors were almost finished closing when a hand stopped them. "Wait - I've gotta go up, too." Higgins. I bit my tongue. Don't fangirl, don't fangirl...!!
"Oh hey, you're Natasha Quinn!" he cried as the doors shut. I grinned.
"It's nice to meet you, Higgins!" I said, sticking my hand out. Jimmy seems to bring out the extrovert in me - and that's a pretty rare thing to see (at least if I'm not on stage). Higgins shook my hand.
"Let me tell you something," he said, leaning in slightly, "this guy over here will not shut up about you." I blushed.
"Really?"
"Higgins," hissed Jimmy. "Don't creep out our guest."
"I'm not creeping her out - look, she's blushing!"
"Shut up," I muttered, hiding my face. The elevator let out a cheery ding and we exited, my face still extremely warm and bright.
"Sorry about that," whispered Jimmy, trailing behind me. "He's like that with everybody."
"Dude, it's fine," I replied. "I'm a huge fan, so this is like a dream."
"Oh believe me," he said, "it's real. Let me show you your dressing room!" He took my arm and led me around the set, taking me by the snack bar and the various odds and ends. I dropped off my stuff in the dressing room and went back with Jimmy for rehearsals.
"So we're gonna play a game tonight and do some other stuff," he explained. "Uh, let's see here...we'll play Box of Lies, I'll ask you some stuff about your next album, your world tour that's coming up in a few months, and the last thing we'll film is the Ew sketch."
"Awesome," I said, giving a thumbs up.
"Great! Alright...you ready to film?"
"Wha...already?"
"Yeah! Don't worry, it'll be great!" he said, smiling at me with his chocolate brown eyes.
"Okay.....," I said, trying to believe in myself as much as he believed in me.
The first part to film was Box of Lies. The audience filled in and I was introduced. I walked out to the cheers and the lights and the cameras and suddenly felt right at home. I sat across from Jimmy and tried my best to keep the fangirl within down as he explained a game I knew so well.
"Natasha, you are our guest so you will go first," he said, a sparkle in his eyes as he turned to face me.
"Alrighty," I said, standing up. "Which box?" I cried. The audience immediately began screaming random numbers at me.
