The room was empty when I woke up at ten the next morning. I gazed wearily around the room, eyes hardly awake yet, landing slowly on a folded-up piece of paper on Jimmy's pillow. On top of it was a bright pink carnation. I sat up and, feeling suddenly much more awake, reached for the note. After smelling the carnation and placing it gently on my bedside table, I unfolded the thing...
Gooooood morning, Tasha! Sorry to leave you before you're awake. I guess we both forgot I have to work. Don't worry - I kissed you goodbye. You just don't remember.
Okay. That probably sounded really creepy.
Anyways, have a great day, pretty lady! I'll call you when I have the chance.
- Jimmy
P.S. Did you know you talk in your sleep? It's adorable. My eyes widened. I talked in my sleep last night? Oh, great....what did I say??
Suddenly, I vaguely remembered Jimmy kneeling down beside the bed to kiss me goodbye. Why hadn't I woken up completely? Well, we had finally made it to bed around 1 or 2 in the morning...I guess I was pretty exhausted, then. He must be, too.
I hopped out of bed, grabbed some clothes, and jumped in the shower. This was the first morning in a very long time, I realized, when I hadn't gone straight to my phone upon waking. Instead, I had a flower and a letter from Jimmy Fallon. It still didn't seem real to me in the least.
I got dressed and put gel in my hair, scrunching it with a towel, as I went about the apartment doing other things, to get my curls to chill out. When my hair was mostly dry, I threw the towel in the laundry bin and settled down on the couch with some Lucky Charms. I turned on the TV and jumped as the eerie noises from the main menu of the The Sixth Sense filled the room. I switched the input to HDMI-2 and turned on my Apple TV, deciding to watch some Jeopardy! via YouTube as I ate. I put my cereal down and dashed down the hall to my room, snatching my phone off the bed and running back in record time.
- but in the hallway, I stopped in my tracks. Something had hit me as I ran into the room. I slowly trailed back in, sat down on Jimmy's side, and picked up the pillow.
Holy cats on a planet. It smells exactly like his cologne.
About a minute later, pillow and phone in hand, I sat back down at the couch. My phone had loads of notifications - my mom had texted me to say hello, the Piano Tiles app wanted me to play, and Jimmy -
I stopped scrolling through the alerts and clicked on his text, waiting impatiently as my phone loaded. At last, it did, and I held my breath.
Last night was the best date ever. Thanks so much for protecting me from the ghosts. 👻
And another text.
I can't stop thinking about what you said in your sleep. Have you remembered yet? 😉
"NO. I have not," I said aloud. Salt mewed from the kitchen. I meowed back, then read on.
Hey, I guess you're not awake yet, but if you are by noon - wanna come by the studio for lunch? I've got something in mind. It's a surprise. 😎
"Huh. Okay then."
I texted back quickly, reiterating the fact that last night truly was the best date ever, then stating that I had not remembered what I said at all, and that I'd love to have lunch with him.
And also, I typed in, grinning, you're pretty emoji-crazy today. It's cracking me up. 😁
My phone buzzed a minute later.
Am not! 😮
...
Okay, maybe I am. 😅I laughed and texted back,
The first step is admitting you have a problem. It took him a while to respond this time. When he did, I snorted.
EW. Why isn't there a check emoji??
I opened up my emoji keyboard and laughed harder.
Dude, there is. Behold: ✔️
As I waited for him to respond, my phone began to ring. I answered it quickly. "Hey, King of Emojis. What's shakin'?"
Jimmy laughed - though quietly, as though he didn't want anyone to know who he was talking to. "Hey, Queen of Little Spoons. I just wanted to hear your voice."
I blushed. "Awww," I said. "But, wait...'Queen of Little Spoons'?" I chuckled.
"Well, you were an excellent little spoon last night."
I laughed. "Did you just say something about spooning, Jimmy?" I heard Higgins call out in the background.
"Uhh," stuttered Jimmy, "just...don't....Higgins...?!"
"It's her isn't it. Don't worry," he said, "I won't say anything."
"Thank you, Higgins," said Jimmy. "That means a lot."
"So, lunch?" I said, grinning as Salt nuzzled against my arm. I pet her fluffy head.
"Yes!" he replied. "I can't wait to see you." He laughed and lowered his voice further. "Especially after what you told me last night...."
"Oh yeah...that," I said. "What did I say?!"
"I can't believe you don't know!" he choked out between more manic laughter.
"This is so evil!" I shouted. "Just tell me!"
"No!"
"Pleeeeeeease??"
"You're just gonna have to come down for lunch to find out."
I sighed. "Fine," and then, after a slight pause, I added, "you're lucky you're cute."
"I know."
"Pfft," I chuckled. "See you later, boyfriend."
"Roger that, pretty lady."
Click.
I pressed play on my phone and sat in silence, my mind wandering from Jeopardy! answers to the many things I could have possibly told Jimmy in my sleep the night before. What on earth did I say that's got him so giddy...??
A/N: Sorry for a relatively short chapter! I kinda wanted to end it on a slight cliffhanger c: Thank you so much for reading and voting! It means the world! <3 I hope you're enjoying this little story as much as I'm enjoying writing it. Cheers! x
