Still somehow on the roof of Stiles jeep, I was left in charge of sniffing for Lydia's scent. I could vaguely hear the voices in the jeep, but I was too busy trying to follow the scent so I wasn't really paying attention.
"Take the next right," I shouted to Scott, whose head was half out the car so he could hear me over the wind.
"Next right," he echoed to Stiles, who then whirled round the corner causing me to almost skid off the roof. I hit my hand on the roof and I heard a small chuckle from inside the jeep. I rolled my eyes and we pulled into the woods. We parked up and I followed the scent. After a couple hours walking, we came to the burned down remains of the Hale house.
"She came here? You sure?" Stiles asked.
"Yeah, this is where the scent leads," I answered.
Stiles sighed.
"All right, but has Lydia ever been here?"
"Not with me," Allison stated. "Maybe she came here on instinct, like she was looking for Derek."
"You mean," Scott started.
"Looking for an Alpha," I interrupted. It was then I remembered that technically, I was an Alpha without a pack. But Scott was my pack. Stiles, Lydia, Allison, hell, even Jackson is a part of my pack. Juts because they were human, doesn't mean they can't be part of my pack.
"Wolves need a pack, right?" Allison asked.
"Most of them," I answered as Scott answered:
"Not all of them."
I looked at Scott and he nodded his head, signalling he understood.
"But would she have been drawn to an Alpha? Is it, like, an instinct to be part of a pack?"
"Yeah, we're – we're stronger in packs. And, why wouldn't she go to Kenzie if she was looking for an Alpha?" Scott wondered. I simply shrugged my shoulders.
"Like, strength in numbers?" Allison asked.
"No, like – like, literally stronger, faster, better in every way," I answered.
"That the same for an Alpha?"
Scott looked at me and I nodded.
"That'll make Derek stronger too," he concluded. I sighed and walked towards Stiles who was looking around. Scott and I walked ahead whilst Stiles was looking for footprints or something. I continued looking at the house when a strong scent of smoke filled my nostrils. I looked around and couldn't see a fire.
'Must just be my imagination,' I thought to myself.
"Whoa, hey, look at this," Stiles shouted, looking at something on the ground. "You see this? I think it's a tripwire."
He tripped the tripwire, but nothing happened.
"Stiles?" Scott asked from behind us.
"Yeah, buddy. Oh."
Allison and I turned around and we were faced by Scott hanging upside down. So the tripwire did do something.
"Next time you see a trip wire – Don't trip it," Scott made random arm gestures. I grinned widely and he glared at me.
"Yeah, noted." Stiles started walking towards him, aiming to get him down before I stopped him.
"Wait! Wait, wait, wait, wait!" I exclaimed. I listened again and heard them. Footsteps. "Someone's coming."
"Hide. Go!" Scott shouted before we could get him down. We all looked at each other before Allison, Stiles and me ran and hid behind a hill. Lying down, I listened to what was happening.
