Determination (Sequel to Innocence)

Chapter 4

           “Hey you two, I want to go over some rules.” I say staring at my roommates sitting on the couch in our dorm.

            “Oh great.” Naomi says laughing along with Lauran.

            I mock her then I laugh. “Yeah yeah anyways listen.”

            They stare at me mocking me now. I shake my head rolling my eyes.

            “I’m not a drinker, so I don’t want parties with drinks. Also, if either of you have boyfriends I don’t like to know that you might have sex in your rooms. I’m gay so I don’t want to hear anything… weird. That’s all I really have rules about.”

            “You’re gay?” Lauran asks.

            “Yeah, I don’t care if you have a problem with it I’m proud of it.”

            “No I don’t have a problem with it. My sister is gay.”

            My mouth drops and I stare at Lauran for a while. I didn’t know Laylana was gay… why would I care though if she is or not…

            “Oh… really? Laylana?” I shake my head still not believing it.

            Lauran nods her head and walks to the mini fridge getting something to eat. I stare at her then I shake my head in shock. ‘Wow’ I think to myself. ‘I never would’ve thought that…’

            “How long as Laylana been open about it?” I ask curiously.

            Lauran stares at me with a thinking look on her face as she stuffs her mouth with yogurt. “I would say her whole life. It was kind of obvious.”

            “Hmm I see…” I say putting my hands on my hips.

            I jump out of nowhere because my phone vibrates from my back pocket. I laugh as Naomi and Lauran stare at me.

            “Damn it I need to put that on ringer or something.” I smile looking at my phone.

            ‘Have a good day Aub, P.S. I have a dance show coming up Saturday you should come!’ it’s Laylana’s text. Almost two months I’ve been here she’s texted me every day telling me to have a good day when she woke up and I would reply. I’m excited that she has a dance show coming up soon. I’ll enjoy that for sure. I’ve never seen her dance except like a little bit because when I would see her she’s constantly doing some dance move.

            ‘Have a good day to you too Laylee’ I reply to her text.

            I call her Laylee short for Laylana because Lay is the first part of her name and her middle name is Lee. I’m actually the only person that calls her Laylee everyone else calls her Lana for short. I feel special.

            “What is with you and my sister by the way?”

Lauran asks sitting down on the couch still eating her yogurt. Naomi and her stare at me for a while. I put my phone away and run my fingers through my hair.

“What are you talking about?” I ask hesitantly. I really don’t have a clue of what they’re talking about.

“You guys bond more than me and her do.”

“We’re just really good friends?”

I look at her confused and I shake my head walking away into my room. I grab my books for my classes and I walk out of my room staring at my roommates.
