The car fell silent on the way home, no words spoken. Small sounds of the radio static acted up time to time, but nothing else. Your hand laid steadily on the steering wheel, eyes concentrated on the road, only every once in a while glancing over to look at Jeremy to see how he was doing. He had his hand next to the window, resting his head on top, spacing out. You felt horrible for him and everything hes gone through. Even though you haven't known Jeremy for that long, you knew you two were gonna be great friends, you felt that way about the rest of the work gang. You reached your drive way and sat in the car for a sec, wondering how your going to tell your parent that a guy you just met a couple days ago is now living with them and will probably have to sleep in your room. Your head turned to the side because you began to hear Jeremy shuffle around.
"Hey (y/n)?" He asked quietly.
"Yeah, you okay?" You said carefully. He nodded his head and continued to speak.
"I'm sorry..." He barely whispered. You sighed, knowing that he felt horrible.
"Jeremy there's nothing to be sorry about." You tried to comfort him by rubbing his back. He just looked back out the window.
"Come on let's get inside, my parents have a big surprise." You said getting out the car door, Jeremy doing the same thing. You headed to the the front of your house an unlocked it, bringing Jeremy in by the arm. As soon as you enter your families eyes laid upon you and Jeremy with your hand wrapped around his arm.
"Um (y/n), who's this?" Your mother asked pointing your finger between you and Jeremy. you rubbed the back of your head as you let go of Jeremy."well, mom, this is Jeremy..." you said, looking to the ground not knowing how to explain this right.
"okay, so, whys he here then?" Your mother asked again. You let out a deep breath.
" mom, listen, Jeremy needs to stay with us for a while, hes had a hard home life and cant stay there any longer." You tried to explain. you mom rubbed the bridge of her nose.
"(y/n)... We cant just have him live with us, he has his own family, we cant take care of another person!" She was starting to get mad at you for this, but that was to be expected.
"well were gonna have to because hes not going back." you said almost snarkly. Jeremy was looking around not knowing was to do and holding his arms around him protectively.
"oh yes he is! under no circumstances am i letting some strange boy whom i've never even heard you mention come stay with us!"
"hes my co-worker at the stupid job you forced me to take!" you yelled out, stomping your foot. "If you never even made take this job then this whole fight wouldnt have happened!"
"Dont blame this on me! Now as your mother i demand you drive him back to were he came from!" she huffed as she angerly walked to the door and opened it.
"Mom! his family hurts him! Abuses him! How could i just send him back to that?!" you yelled back. Jeremy obviously was getting uncomfortable is the situation and began to shift around trying to grab your attention to leave. Soon enough you noticed him and got the message. Marching to your mom you closed the door shut, because she was speechless and just stared at Jeremy wide eyed.
"Now if you excuse us we will be in my room." You grabbed Jeremy and headed upstairs to your own room. Opening the door, you were greeted by the teenage smell of your room (FYI your like 19 and the rest of the guards are around the same age, but imma make Vincent 28) Clothes were scattered around the floor and plates and glasses were littered everywhere.
"Sorry my rooms a mess, I haven't had time to clean it in a while." You apologize.
"It's fine, I d- don't care." He just shrugged it off.
"You can have seat over there, I'll get you a different shirt because your sweater has beer all over it." You said as he took a seat on your bed.
"(Y/n) it's f-fine, I-I'm better o-off in just t-this." He stuttered moving his arms to the side looking to his splashed sweater.
"Jeremy it's okay, just let me get you a shirt." You insisted, walking out the room to find old clothes. Soon enough you found one of your brothers old shirts he never wore and thought that was good enough. It was a dark grey t-shirt, that was very plain. You carried that back to the room and opened the door to see Jeremy in the same position you left him in.
"Okay so I could only find my brothers old shirt, but it looks like it'll fit." You said, handing him the clothing. He took it and began to reluctantly take off his green sweater, struggling to get it off over his head.
"Um, you need some help there?" You questioned. He nodded his head and you came over. It was kinda awkward being that he was half shirtless, but you hid the small blush that arose on your face. His sleeves were Half way off, the same thing on his stomach. The turtle neck he wore was tight around his neck, so it was hard to get it over his head. After a couple seconds of struggling you finally got it off, but now part of you wished you didn't. A shocking sight laid before your eyes. Among Jeremy's pale arms laid dozens of cuts and scars. Immediately your hand flew to your mouth, letting out a faint gasp."Jeremy?..." you whispered. With out warning you gave him a huge hug, a surprise for you both. You both stayed in the hug for a while, but then you both noticed he had no shirt on and that you were laying on top of him. Quickly you scrambled back off of him, both of your cheeks stained red from this. He had some tears in the corners of his eyes(question mark? how does he see?), but wiped then away with the back of his hand.
"i g-guess th-this is the p-part where I e-explain mys-self." Looking at you then to his arms he began to cover them, i guess feeling exposed. you quickly tossed the shirt to him and he fumbled to put it on, but soon got over his torso. You just sat there, ready to listen every thing he had to say and tell you about.
"W-well for starters my dads an a-alcoholic, a-and my mom is in and out of the pic-picture constantly. This has been g-going on for a while, but my dad started to h-h-hit and b-beat me for only a-a year now." he brushed his hand through his curly brown hair while supporting him self by placing his other hand behind him a bit on the bed.
"I-im neglected, i A-Always h-have been..." grabbing at the fabric of his shirt it was obvious he was uncomfortable talking about this. "I became, and still am, d-depressed." he looked up to you, waiting for your response.
"Jeremy, im...im so sorry." you said, wrapping your arms around him again, but he hugged back tighter and began to sob into your shoulder. you two finally calmed down and decided you both needed sleep before your shift. Since you didn't have a guest room you let Jeremy sleep in your bed as you slept on the floor.
"(y-y/n) you c-can sleep in your b-bed if you want, i-ill s-sleep o-on the floor." he started to get out of the bed but you got up and pushed him back down.
"Jeremy its okay, you can sleep in my bed." you insisted. you went to turn around and go to sleep, bit he grabbed you wrist before you could walk away.
"i-i dont m-mind sharing th-the bed.." he blushed. You just nodded your head and crawled in next to him. Your bed was big so it wasn't like you to were right next to each other, but it was still pretty awkward. With it 5 minuets Jeremy was out like a light, drool hanging from his mouth. Knowing Jeremy got to sleep soundly you finally started to drift off.
