The one that got away

Chapter 25

I woke up in a room with white walls… for a change. I squinted my eyes and saw a puffy red eye boyfriend, ‘’you are alive’’ I croaked ‘’thanks to you! You saved my life and the others lives!’’ he said crying ‘’I did?’’ I asked, ‘’yes, you took the bullet that was meant to kill me first’’ he said, ‘’I did?’’ I asked him again, ‘’yes! Yes you did Emily!’’ he said crying and hugged me, ‘’ouch’’ I exclaimed, he pressed the bullet wound, it hurts a lot, but losing the ones that I loved, hurts more.

When I was discharged out of the hospital, Niall took me home, the others planned a small welcome-back-home party. I was really grateful for them, for putting up the banners and the party but I really was not feeling the party mood. ‘’I’m really tired guys, do you mind if I go up and rest?’’ I asked them, ‘’of course, goodnight love!’’ they all called after me, Niall came up with me, he didn’t want to leave me alone because he was afraid something will happen to me during the night.

‘’babe, can you get me my pyjamas please?’’ I asked him, ‘’of course love’’ he said and handed me my pyjamas, I got dressed and went into bed. He came beside me and hugged me, I started thinking, I love him so much, I can’t keep causing him trouble.

*1 week later*

‘’we are going to the studio, do you want to come?’’ Harry asked me, ‘’um, no thank you, I’ll stay here’’ I told him, ‘’be careful babe’’ Niall told me as he kissed my cheek and went out with the others.

This was the right time, I had to do it now, it wasn’t easy and I put a lot of thought in my mind, and the consequences it came with it but I had to, it was the only way.  

I went up to my room and picked up a paper and a pen and started writing.

Niall’s POV

‘’You'll never love yourself half as much as I love you. And you'll never treat yourself right darlin’ but I want you to. If I let you know I'm here for you, maybe you'll love yourself like I love you oh’’ I sang into the microphone. All this time I was thinking about her, I loved her so very much and I think now it was the right time to do it, I couldn’t live without her, tonight is going to be perfect, I am going to propose to her!

Back to my POV

I finished writing the letter and packing up the luggage with my stuff. I know this would hurt a lot of people, but at least they would forget me and they could continue their lives with no trouble, they were already going to be dead once because of me, I was not going to risk it again.

I went down the stairs and put the letter on the fruit bowl in the kitchen, and locked the door behind me, the taxi that I called earlier was there waiting for me, so I went in and he drove me to the airport.

I didn’t want to go back to California.

Niall’s POV

This idea was already in my mind other times but I felt like now was the right time, I had already bought the ring and asked for Liam’s permission, so all that I needed was a yes from Emily.

We went home and I was buzzing, everyone was excited for us to make the next move. As we went in, I called her name but there was no answer, maybe she’s in her room so

I went up there, as I was about to go up the stairs, Charlotte called me from the kitchen.

When I got into they all had sad faces and she was holding a piece of paper in her hands, ‘’ I think you should read this’’ she told me and handed me the piece of paper. I recognized Emily’s writing on it.

Dear Friends, boyfriend and brother,

 I’m sorry I left without saying goodbye, but I guess this was the best decision, I want you to forget about me, it’s for the best, I can’t cause all this trouble for you! Niall, I love you, that’s why I am doing this. Please don’t dwell on me, move on, live your life! I’ll be fine, don’t come look for me because you won’t find me. I love you all.

I finished reading, I couldn’t believe it, she was gone.
