We stopped at Briaunna's place which really was just as hectic as she had said. Kids were everywhere and the ground was littered with toys and such. I could see why she wouldn't like it here. Her Aunt said it was fine that she stay with me as long as Bri kept her updated.
We had finally made it to my house and as soon as I opened the door, Wink raced in panting from our long adventure. Sugar had jogged up to the entrance where Bri and I stood and she welcomed us with a thorough sniff. "Mom I'm home," I yelled. "I'm right here no need to-," my mom stopped when she noticed I wasn't alone.
"Well hello, I wasn't expecting company, my mother said. "Oh I hate to impose, I thought Sheila had informed you that I was coming. I can leave," Briaunna said shyly.
"Nonsense, stay. I'm sorry about the house, we're still settling in."
"It's fine. It's very beautiful," Bri said with a bit of awh in her voice.
"Thank you," my mom said with pride. Not cockily, just proud to live here. "Well girls, I didn't have dinner planned so how's about I go and get y'all some fast food?"
"Sounds good to me. That okay with you Bri? Is it okay if I call you that?" I asked. "Yeah that's fine," she said as she answered both of my questions. "Okay well text me what you want. I'm going to the grocery store and I'll be back with groceries and dinner in about 2 hours. Will y'all be okay?" My mother asked, her accent showing through. "Yep," I replied. "Come on Bri lets go to my room."
"Okay," Bri said. "It was nice meeting you Mrs...."
"Call me Bran," my mother said sweetly. "It's short for Branette." "Okay, Bran, nice meeting you," Briaunna said with a smile.
"You too," my mother said as she rushed out of the house. We headed up stairs and walked into my room.
"Your room is totally Tumblr," Briaunna said like a valley girl. I laughed and replied with a thanks and an I guess.
"Where's your dad?" she asked.
I knew this subject would come up sooner or later, I was just hoping for later. Briaunna noticed my change in attitude and quickly said "Oh, sorry, I didn't realize it was a touchy subject." "No, it's okay, really. You opened up to me, the least I can do is reciprocate." So I told her about my so called "father" and it seemed to bring us closer together. We both had someone who walked out on us, and as a result, we both have trust issues. Except when it comes to one another, we were like open books with each other.
"I would say sorry, but it doesn't help. I would know," she said.
"Thank goodness someone understands. All I've gotten is pity and I hate that just as much as I hate the word perfect," I said with annoyance lacing my words.
"I hate pity too, it makes me feel weak, Bri said. "But, why do you hate the word perfect?" she questioned.
"Well to me it's an opinion, a stupid one at that. No one and nothing is perfect, nor will it ever be. It's just a word that truly has no meaning. Everyone's view of perfection is different, and that's exactly why I have stopped striving to be perfect and just started making goals I want to reach," I explained.
"Wow, you're so insightful," she said seriously. So serious it made me laugh, Like I said earlier, I laugh at everything.
Some people think I'm making fun of them when I'm not. I just think it's funny. As soon as she heard my "laugh" that was more like a donkey-ostrich mating call, she started bursting out with laughter. Soon enough we were rolling on the floor with tears forming rivers on our faces.
"I much prefer these tears rather than the sad ones," she says as soon as she sobered up.
"Same," I replied.
My mom came home soon with dinner from Chick-Fil-A and brought it to us, but not before jokingly scolding us for not texting her what we wanted.
I explained to her that we were caught up laughing and she said it was okay. We spent the rest of the night talking and laughing and fell asleep to my favorite movie which just so happens to be her favorite movie, Step It Up.
